Agree. It's unlikely ethical vegans will agree but if they encouraged people to go 90% plant based it would be so much better IMO. 14000 calories a week for the average woman, that's 1400 calories of animal products per week. It's not a lot compared to what most people eat now but at the same time it offers a massive amount of flexibility.
Go 90% plant based and still have a 'normal' meal with your family each week, that cheese sandwich you wanted and a couple of lattes sounds far easier than go vegan and never eat another animal product as long as you live. Especially as the #1 reason vegans abandon veganism is pressure from partner or family. It puts a traditional Christmas dinner, family meals, eating out and indulging the odd craving back on the menu. |

It's only a small proportion of the vegan community that tries to convince anyone else to be vegan. I don't feel it's my job as a vegan to convince others to behave more ethically and responsibly. |  |

At home we buy the best quality and welfare standards we can afford.
I'd be interested in hearing more about this. Not to jump on you but because I put a lot of effort into researching this stuff about a year ago. The basic standards aren't great at all. You really do get what you pay for in regards to animal welfare. |
We use local butchers a lot but also buy from Waitrose which has higher standards.
We never buy from Aldi or the cheaper supermarkets. Welfare standards are something we don't look to compromise.

Good stuff. Waitrose's standard stuff has a lot of the same standards demanded by the soil association who certify organic products so they are a good supermarket.
Aldi and Lidl have quite a lot of RSPCA certified products who require higher standards. Not all obviously. | |

It does look from those figures that the avocado thing is something of a red herring. Clearly they do have a large carbon footprint relative to other plant based foods, but you'd have to be eating a ridiculous amount of avocado to even have a third of the environmental impact of consuming an average amount of milk. |
A study conducted by Carbon Footprint Ltd affirms a small pack of two avocados has an emissions footprint of 846.36g CO2, almost twice the size of one kilo of bananas (480g CO2) and three times the size of a large cappuccino with regular cow milk (235g CO2).
