XR PR 09:12 - Sep 11 with 33142 views | hampstead_blue | Interesting resignation and thoughts from their PR talking head. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54103163 XR "peddle messages of doomsday gloom that alienate" and offer "little in the way of positive solutions", she added. co-founder Roger Hallam's claim that science predicts six billion people will die this century due to climate change - a claim that he made to BBC's HARDtalk. Ms Lights said: "It's a headline-grabbing assertion - but unfortunately, it's also not true, peer-group tribal pressure to stick to an outdated mainstream green line". "peddling the notion that the solution to the climate crisis was to turn back the clock to a simpler time". I think I mentioned last week that XR wanted us to live in caves. That got me a lot of tap. Well, their former head of PR agrees. Tap away. A few interesting clips from the BBC piece. I've said before that I am not a fan of them and how they make their point. THis simply reinforces it.

I've always felt slightly uncomfortable with dairy milk. Oat milk allows me to eat bran flakes without feeling weird.

Works well in porridge. For probably obvious reasons. I don't mind it on other cereal as it goes. Doesn't fare so well in tea.

I prefer it in tea to all the other milk substitutes to be fair. None of them work brilliantly in tea but oat milk I find to be more than passable.

Both Provomel and Alpro unsweetened *organic* soya milk work well in tea I find, but not in coffee (which is too acid? or something, so it separates). It's key to pour the s.milk in last. Provamel's slightly better as it has a slightly higher bean content (9.8% iirc) compared with Alpro's (8.8% iirc). Important to get the organic ones as they don't have any additives, just beans & water - helps re the flavour in tea, even tho I usually prefer nut milks fortified with B.vits & calcium for drinking straight.

Oh it's definitely the best of the bunch, no doubt. Have people stopped pretending to like soy yet? That stuff is horrible. If it came down to it, I would rather go without and eat a box of Weetabix on its own, dry.

I generally use milk milk. But obviously Herbs and a few others don't so the conversation has leant that way somewhat. Plus I have tried to humour my pal J2 and so have tried some of his recommendations. I'm even still speaking to him and everything, regardless.

Oat milk. (Which I don't mind). And soy, which may not have been you, but I blamed you for putting the idea into my head. There was another that I hated that I may have made-up, but feel it's real. This wouldn't stand up in court would it?

Almond - that's it. One of you suggested almond milk which I tried and liked but then learned I was responsible for murdering babies, or puppies or something. Anyways, almond milk is bad, so I don't buy it any more. I do still buy almonds sometimes but I keep that quiet. Occasionally also avocados but generally only when they're on offer. I don't know if they're more environmentally friendly when they're on offer but I pretend they are. [Post edited 11 Sep 2020 19:24]

Yes, I believe on the ethical scale using Californian almonds is roughly the equivalent to puppy killing, European Almond based products, including when used in the cladding around Battenburgs, is fine, that’s just like kicking an adult dog when slightly miffed.

I always find it quite ironic the same people preaching about not drinking milk and eating red meat, will happily gobble down things like an Avacado. Each Avacado needs around 70 litres of water for full growth, grown in areas where water is already scarce. Not forgetting they then have to be flown over here. I'm not having a dig by the way, and I always try and do my bit for this beautiful planet we call home.

Dairy cows are treated badly, kept constantly lactating and get very sore teats from intensive milking. Calves, male ones in particular, get sent away for slaughter so drinking milk and eating cheese makes you complicit in the killing of animals. Plus to keep that many cows requires a ton of food and water and creates a lot of methane, so it's not good for the environment by any stretch. Here's a comparison of different kinds of milks by environmental impact: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/science-environment-46654042 So those are the main reasons. Plus when you really think about it, drinking the lactations of another animal is a bit weird. Other animals don't usually drink other animals' secretions that are meant to feed their babies. That's probably a lesser reason mind you, animal welfare, the slaughter of calves, and the environmental impact are the three biggies.

Will they? If you don’t have some form of evidence that using non-baby-animal-food milk is correlated with increased avocado use, then you are sort of having a dig. Are you sure it is not lazy middle class people that couldn’t be arsed to slice avocados properly, but now smashing them on toast is okay, it is that which is fuelling the increase in avocado advocates?

That very much sounds like a dig and an ill-founded one at that. Is it only plant milk drinkers that eat avocado? Does cutting down your dairy consumption make you ravenous for avocado? Show your working or I'm calling this a dig.
