Your last statement isn't true. I know of one with confirmed cases which is open with no one but individuals isolating, another with two whole year groups isolating and the rest of the school (and staff in). Another prominent case was reported up here despite all of the steps they took https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/school-covi They did not close but made students affected isolate. Anecdotally I've seen teachers on various groups report all sorts of stories (how verifiable they are is questionable, but you'd assume most people on a teaching group would be teachers given they are generally private). Some Headteachers, some local authorities and some parents/members of the public are playing dangerous games already. Whether that's ignorance, selfishness or fear is questionable. Schools should be as safe as possible and many will be, the government simply stating "schools are safe" is false and dangerous. It's impossible to ascertain that and given there have been cases clearly another example of them saying what they want to convey and insisting people believe it.

Indeed. How long does it take for symptoms to show. Most (if not all) of the cases showing up in schools will be students who already had it before mixing with their bubble (as many as 250 students or more in some schools). Bearing in mind that the teachers cross those bubble, the bubbles mix on public transport and in homes where students from multiple schools are in the same home, there really is no effective bubble at all. Add to that the socialising that is happening too. Most schools only intend to send a bubble home (not close entirely) if there is a confirmed case. The continued spread from asymptomatic cases, before symptoms develop and before tests show that the individual is positive means it is inevitable there is going to be a rapid increase in cases spread via the younger age groups and staff in schools. If the Nightingales are not in use with the second wave we will have been fortunate.

Aside from the fact your last statement is wrong, so is your first. There are 32150 schools without any students known to have tested positive for Covid. That is not the same as without a student infected either symptomatically or asymptomatically. Where I teach there are plenty being tested and we are one of the 32150 you suggest are unaffected.

Has he got a shed or an outhouse he can shove the elder son in? If not, you can pick up small festival tents really cheaply and stick it down the bottom of the garden. Lob him a box of cornflakes and box of milk every couple of days and he’ll be fine for 2 weeks. (Doesn’t seem logical, does it).

Don’t pretend they are safe, like this Government would have you believe and provide staff with the relevant PPE as other countries do Schools should be open, but open with relevant precautions

And maybe have much clearer guidelines on wearing masks rather than leaving it to individual head teachers to make the call. Maybe having clearer central guidelines on mixed learning to reduce numbers in schools and encouraging working from home to allow parents to have children at home. As inconvenient as having students at home is, it will be very much more inconvenient having your child looked after when the parent is on a ventilator or looking after your children when you have recovered but with lasting effects to your health. How are teachers going to manage when their own children are sent home as part of an affected bubble if they have no other child care options?

Like the USA, all part of a strategy to absolve blame from the Government and pass down to local level to take the heat.
