These younguns in Liverpool partying last night on the streets 13:49 - Oct 14 with 3295 viewsbluelagos

The fault of...

A. Selfish / ignorant youngsters showing little regard for the more vulnerable members of society?

B. Our government's abject failure to communicate effectively the need for everyone to maintain social distancing in the interests of the more vulnerable in society?

C: Both A and B?

Any other explanations?

People are sick of it, they see their futures being taken away from them a well as their present and massive inconsistencies on how the rules are being applied.

We were all in it together at the start, but that just isn't the case any more.

If Essex gets locked down next, then nothing will change for my Essex based family from speaking to them - and I guess most will take that option.

That's not what he asked though.

He specifically said the government not communicating the need to social distancing etc, not the specific tier rules.

You are of course right the rules should change immediately after the announcement and they should be better. As I understand it there is currently nothing stopping someone leaving a Tier 3 area for a Tier 1 area to basically do something they want to do.

A. They make me puke, just flouting the rules cos them and their pr*ck mates don;t care. I wish this virus would just affect the people who are breaking the rules and leave the sensible people out of it.

I find it hard to believe that the people who would do this would ever listen to expert advice even if the advice was solid and delivered well. Some people are just selfish garbage. That's not to say the the government response hasn't been utterly abysmal though.

I mean, they all have TVs, they all have phones. They can see the news. They can all see the number of infections and deaths worldwide.

They're doing it because they want to.

Just my take.

We have our differences of opinions Sprucie, however on this occasion you are spot on. People choose to behave how they want with no regard for their actions and how it can and will affect others.I think some of these people think it won't do any harm to them but forget the older and vulnerable in society.

It's not the drink alone. I spent a weekend week holed up with some Icelanders once. They drank until they fell over and then drank when they woke up. None of them behaved like d1ckheads. The social scene in Sweden was very different when my Mrs lived there too - much smaller scale. People a lot more intorverted and stayed at home, or had small gatherings. Sure, there were bars but it didn't get like the UK. Neither of those are Norway, but 🤷‍♂️

I completely agree.

We all know that though. We all know the youngsters are care free, and even moreso when they've had 8 pints in them. It's so inevitable. This sort of stuff should easily be predicted and prevented before it can happen. It's a prime example of why 'common sense' is a mindnumbingly stupid stategy for dealing with a global pandemic.

Norwegians get drunk at weekends and they tend to fall over and/or get a little loud, but they don't abuse emergency workers or damage private property. It really is a British disease.

The answer is A.

Don't forget it was only a couple of months ago when the Mayor of Liverpool and loads of other people condemned all those people not socially distancing/wearing masks when out on the streets celebrating Liverpool winning the Prem league. If any place should know what is the correct rules and why getting together in large crowds isn't allowed it is Liverpool

Strange isn't it. I don't know what it is that predisposes us to being bellends. I wouldn't be surprised ot find out there's a whole subsection of scientific research dedicated to it.

Think now would be a good time for the whole country to look at its pub culture. Something needs to be done. I have been to many European countries and none of them have the same culture as we do. They go out and enjoy themselves, but don't drink and behave the way people in this country seems to. Time for a change in culture is long over due.

The pubs here are open til 3 every night and still the people manage to behave themselves.

Yup 4am here, and this is going back to pre-Covid times, but it really is noticeable that you don't get that 10:45pm last dash to the bar to come back with three pints to neck before the landlord kicks you out at 11:30pm.

Everybody isn't all pouring out onto the street at the same time either.

This has been talked about for as long as I can remember, so I don't know what the answer is. I can't see a meanigful conversation taking place around this either in this ridiculously polarised worldview we're currently in. Maybe I'm too cynical.
