Or when Brentford dumped Warburton?

Strong leadership with a long term vision. Ditch Lambert - he is awful.

Lambert has underperformed here, no doubt, and should have gone in the summer but there's no point sacking him now. We don't need a long term vision right now - we need promotion this season.

Yep, get rid of him now..... on 12:00 - Nov 2 with 1529 viewsBloots

....he's stumbled through the relatively simple start to the season, more by luck than judgement and we have a decent number of points on the board.

But if we only win a couple of our next 6 (which is reasonably likely) the we'll be back down scrabbling around the play off places.

We should have binned him (at the latest) when the rot started last season.

We can't make the same mistake this year.

Too expensive to sack him especially without the club generating any income.

Also, whilst we're there or thereabouts he won't feel the need.

At the very latest we should have sacked him after the Lincoln debacle. Instead it was announced he had signed a new contract!

....regarding the financial implications (and that will ultimately be the deciding factor) your second point is exactly the issue.

Evans can't see past the fact that we are second, despite it becoming more and more obvious each week that we are riding our luck.

Just like last season.

It's starting to feel eerily similar to last season. But obviously this time the stakes are much higher. Either Evans shows leadership for the first time in his tenure and gets rid should performance and results deteriorate further, or we end up languishing down here for the next god-knows-how-long.

...at the moment unfortunately.

We'll bumble along in sight of the play offs, Evans will do nothing and we'll finish mid table.

Balls to it all.

I’d give Lambert a generous 4/10 for his time with us. He’s shown nothing to suggest things will get any better. Wouldn’t be at all bothered if we got rid. That though is hoping that Evans/LON can make a good appointment.

No. But my point is that he shouldn't have even started this season with us. Last season was completely inexcusable, avoidable and down to Lambert's constant chopping and changing, and daft decision-making around delaying fixtures.

We’re playing 4-5 youth team players regularly and other youngsters, we have a system and a plan to play good, passing football which is what people have been crying out for for years. He’s even giving more academy players chances, so I don’t really understand your long term plan comment

This year is different from last, our football is clearly better, and we’re 2nd. Really don’t understand the negativity on here.

Like ward said, we’re not going to play amazing football every week. No team is like that, but getting wins when you aren’t playing well is always a good sign of character

Probably the best time to do it, actually.

At least the players have a system at the moment, and are relatively confident of winning games and not conceding goals, a new manager coming in wouldn't need to tweek much initially to get us playing even better.

Contrast that with a sacking after, say a 15-match winless run, any new manager would need to come in, change the system, change personnel and try to instil belief and confidence in the players already here.

I think Soton did a similar thing with Adkins after 2 succesesive promotions and they were OK in the PL, but they acted swiftly to replace him with someone more likely to keep them there. I think that's worked out OK for them in the long run.

Difference between him and Adkins is that Soton board viewed NA as taking them as far as he can so could still be seen as a successful appointment.

Not the case here.

It's a big worry that over the last 2 Saturday's we have played sides who just looked much better coached than us; and the Lincoln side was only put together in the summer so it isn't about the longevity of who has been there

'This year is different from last, our football is clearly better, and we’re 2nd. Really don’t understand the negativity on here.'

Just a small point - at times the football has been better - earlier in the season we certainly were on the front foot more and knocking the ball about nicely and effectively.

However, the last three games have seen more of a return to last season with some labored pedestrian football at times. Couple that with being shown up against a better team it is very much 'deja vu' from last season as I said weeks ago.

The issue for me remains - against better sides we struggle and get punished for mistakes - against mid table/ lower league opposition we get away with it. Whilst winning when not playing well is a good thing (and part of football) - being able to return to playing well quickly is equally important and it is here than Lamberts form is still, very much, questionable.

Evans.

We can sack Lambert if we like but do you have any faith in Evans ability to bring in the right manager?

The issue remains moot though Joe.

What does sacking Lambert achieve whilst Evans remains in charge?

Do we all suddenly believe that Evans will get a new appointment right?

....in a few aspects.

1. We aren't playin 4-5 youth players regularly.
2. We play passing football, but it's not good.
3. We started the season arguably better than last, but over the last 4 or 5 games performances have dropped considerably.
4. We create very few chances, we are mid table at best on xG stats.
5. Getting wins when you aren't playing well is just a sign that you aren't playing well.

I admire your optimism though.

But be prepared.

Lambert out.
