Huge IF given our record, but if fit 14:20 - Dec 6 with 4982 viewsclive_baker

This looks quite naughty at this level:

Cornell
KVY Chambers Woolfenden Ward
Downes Dozzell Bishop
Jackson Norwood Edwards

Personally I would go 4-4-2 but if we're sticking with the 4-5-1 this looks pretty nice. Not ideal shoe horning Jackson wide right but I think he needs to be involved, and cutting in from the right onto his left could be dangerous. Plus Edwards looks so much more comfortable on the left. Bench could look nice too:

Holy, McGuinness, Nolan, Lankester, Hawkins, Judge, Dobra.

I’d swap either Judge or Nolan for McGavin for his set pieces alone.

Can we just play some attractive football please?

I’d put Lankester in above all three of those forwards.

Four ex eacademy starters and another two on the bench is probably Lamberts limit.

I think he's suffering from a lack of quality around him. He needs to be learning not holding the fort.

Looks great - honestly we miss Norwood so much. He just has what our other strikers don't and really makes this formation work. Really hope the injuries will soon leave him and can get him fully firing.

....our style of play/tactical set up ever allow that team to create the number of chances we need to win matches consistently?

We were averaging 4.13 shots on target per game before Saturday and only mustered 3 against Plymouth with 65% possession.

There's more to football (as I'm sure you are aware) than just picking the best 11.

Lambert out.

I think he's just spent at the moment.

He's been out a very long time and is playing a lot of football.
Needs a break.

McGavin's set pieces have been just as good/bad as those from anyone else. He's already had his share of them hit the first man at corners and he's played so few minutes. When they're good, they're great, but when they're not, well...

I agree, I think all our forward options have their merits but Norwood is head and shoulders above anyone else we have in that lone striker role IMO. His movement is very good and he's good enough with his back to goal to play that role effectively. It's a tough gig but it's only through his smart runs that he'll create space for those around him, but it's important the wide men get closer to support than they have done.

I don't like the system, but personnel has been an issue too more lately. Norwood / Jackson / Bishop / Downes is in a different league to Drinan / Bennetts / Dobra / McGavin etc at this stage, although the yoof are showing promise.

I might come January swap El-Mizouri for McGavin. Bring El-Miz back and have him on the bench ( covers all bases for midfield as well ) and let McGavin go and play every week at Cambridge.

Yeah, agree.

Take for example putting Hawkins in there instead of Norwood. Zero movement, just backs into defenders, and has a lacking first touch. You'd much rather play against him than norwood.

I wouldn't start Chambers once KVY is back, I think the McGuinness/Woolfy partnership will get stronger and stronger and time for Chambo to take a step back.

Decent line up though other than that, I might go with Bennetts over Jackson but can't argue with the rest.

Both are full of mistakes.

You don't watch or listen to games then? Lankester has done absolutely nothing last few games unfortunately.

I'm always in favour of our own youngsters but Jack needs to go away, work hard, find form and earn his place in the team. Currently not good enough to be in starting 11

Just needs a rest. Guy had a serious back injury for a year and played way too much football recently.

I agree with this, but I don't think Lambert will ever play Jackson wide.
He calls it 4-3-3 but plays it as 4-5-1 and won't play a forward in a wide role.

My hope if Jackson is played wide he'll join up with the central striker quicker and leave them less isolated.
Look at how Liverpool play this system - Firmino the central player is often deeper than the 2 wide forwards - it's just poor coaching if the central striker is left isolated

Kids make errors, thats how they improve.

Chambers makes a lot more and has struggled against wide players with any quality. Can just about get away with it when playing Rochdale, Burton, etc.

Plus you haven’t mentioned Nydam, a decent young team (bar the keeper)
Cornell
KVY Wool McGuinness Nydam
Dozzell Bishop Downes
Dobra Drinan Bennetts

I’m not saying that’s our best available team but would easily compete with any team in this league.
