Fantastic — the entire experience (including the brunch the next morning if you can fit it in) is just wonderful from start to finish. You won't be disappointed.

We have breakfast included in the experience, not sure if that will be the same as the brunch or whether they are different things. Either way, I imagine it will be exceptional. We get a half bottle of English sparkling wine and snacks on arrival as well. It costs about as much as a long weekend city break would but I'm sure it'll be worth every penny.

Fine dining fans on 19:15 - Jan 25 by Herbivore | Agreed, I think until you've eaten in really good restaurants it's hard to understand how something that looks so expensive is actually really good value for money. We're just round the corner from Cumbria now, and there's about 11 Michelin stars floating around in there, and most of them offer a vegan menu too. |
https://www.oldstamphouse.com/ - In Ambleside and highly recommended, and good value by Michelin tasting menu standards. Living in Yorkshire I'm delighted that one of my favorites has gained it's first star - Roots, in York owned by Tommy Banks, plus a place my friend owns is now listed in the guide for the first time.

No it's the same, I've called it a brunch but perhaps that just reflects how late we got up for it. Sounds like you're getting the same package we did. Some really brilliant walking around Cartmel too if you get time.

Fine dining fans on 10:07 - Jan 26 by ArnoldMoorhen | It's worth adding that the Michelin Guide also has two other categories: Recommended restauarants and Bib Gourmand. I've never been let down by a restaurant in either category. It's a very safe way to pick a restaurant, in this country or abroad in those countries covered by the Guide. Bib Gourmand are supposed to be the more affordable options. Top tip: London has LOADS of Michelin starred restaurants, and many of them have lunch menus at half the cost or less of their dinner menus. You can have a Michelin starred lunch for the same cost as a ticket to watch Ipswich Town play 3rd Division football. You don't get the same value options elsewhere eg Birmingham's four one-starred restaurants are more expensive for lunch than many in London because there are less Michelin stars per head of population by a huge margin, and it is the competition in London that drives down prices. |
Would second the suggestion of going to a London starred restaurant for lunch. My wife and I went to The Square in Mayfair a couple of years ago for their set lunch. It was excellent and not that expensive. I now see that The Square was closed mid-lunch service about a year ago by visiting bailiffs!

Absolutely, loads of great places in London. Funnily enough this lockdown has made me think of all the places I want to try - anyone been to Aquavit or Hakkasan in London?

Fine dining fans on 09:59 - Jan 26 by JakeITFC | Lots of lovely restaurants around but none that made the grade previously. The East is a bit of a deadzone in that regard - there are none in Essex now, two restaurants in Norfolk and only Midsummer House (2 stars) in Cambridgeshire that are recognised with stars. |
As you say lots of great places around Suffolk/the local area. 1921 Maison Bleu Le Talbooth to name a few!

There was a time I'd have probably agreed with you. My partner wanted me to try fine dining as it was not something I felt remotely comfortable having grown up not at all well off. For a milestone birthday, I took her to Sat Bains for the whole 10 course taster, with the wine and some of the extras too, and it's completely changed my view point. The food I had that night was mind blowing as I've still not been anywhere that topped it. Also, without me even asking or notifying them up front, when we mentioned that the reason for coming was a birthday, we got a tour of the kitchen and Sat Bains signed a menu for us which was very nice of him. He seemed like a very down to earth chap too. If you're into food and you have the money, I'd recommend trying these to anyone.

Same, we never went anywhere fancy when I was growing up at all and it always seemed crazy to me that people would pay three figures for a meal out for two people. Then I had a tasting menu at Benedicts not long after it opened and it was fantastic, never experienced anything like it. The service, the quality of the food, the quality of the drink - all superb. I'd have happily paid more. Been to several proper fine dining places since, including a couple in Paris, and it's well worth the money if you can afford it.

Excellent food, good service, quirky wine list and never disappoints. So pleased for them, richly deserved. We are spoiled in BSE for posh eats.

Sat Bains also the best meal I've ever had, absolutely brilliant. Would also recommend Ynyshir to people if you don't mind a journey (to a beautiful part of the UK) and have the stomach for about 26 courses!

Exactly the same here, grew up pretty poor to be honest and my parents had to really slog for what we had so took me a while to get my mindset into it being OK to spend what seemed like excessive money on anything. But I work bloody hard, we don't have kids, and spending money on nice things, as long as it isn't wasteful in any way, is fine with me now.

Yeah, just the two of us. Was a fantastic evening. I think by the end of it, it was between roughly £350. From then on basically we just go out for dinner for birthdays, instead of presents. Rather have the memory of a lovely evening rather than stuff, especially we're in a position now where we can buy things we would like without having to worry too much about things.
