So, what are we saying? 09:06 - Jan 27 with 3563 viewsParky

Numerous trustworthy people claimed that Lambert had the Peterborough, Sunderland and Crewe games to essentially prove his worth and keep his job.

That’s 2/3 now resulting in losses.

Whilst I do think the performances have been better in the last two, the bigger picture still stands that Lambert has a 33% win record, with the majority of his games being in the 3rd tier. We still can’t beat a ‘promotion rival’ losing 8/8 games against the current top 7 this season.

I honestly can’t think of 1 positive in keeping Lambert. Listening to the Peterborough chairman say he constantly quizzes their manager on what players he’s improved and what he has achieved. I don’t think I can name 1 player that Lambert has got the most out of, we’re not playing nice football at all, despite the stupid passing around the back. A positive please anyone?

So, where do we stand now?

Last night's result just keeps the can being kicked down the road, look, clearly Evans isn't comfortable paying Lamberts severance, that's obviously the sticking point, so they will use the red card as the latest excuse and Evans is just hoping we fluke the Play Offs.

In regards to Lamberts pay out, Phil seems to believe that there is a clause / break in there after 2 years of him signing that extension. If that is the case, he would only be paid roughly a years salary, which would be paid in instalments. (Not ideal, but probably less than we’ve paid for these two new loan signings).

I don’t buy the red card excuse, we have those stats of not beating anybody around us for a reason. The longer Evans continues this ridiculous support of Lambert, the more damage he is causing.

But that break clause doesn't help us or Evans now.

I believe Phil mentioned in one thread somewhere that the pay off would only amount to the time up until the break clause. So sack him now and we only need to pay off roughly 1 year.

If that's the case then it's a complete no brainer, what concerns me is that if it isn't the severance which is causing Evans to pull the trigger, then what is it?

But 22 games in, 35 points, if we repeat the first half of the season exactly that gives you 70pts with 2 more games left over to get 6pts from.

Average 6th spot is around 74pts.though it has been done with 69pts. So Town are still very much regardless of how rubbish it has been lately for the playoffs...as long as that early season form does return

But now does it make sense why these 3 games were important?

Isn't it clear? It's the "green shoots" that he saw.

By sacking PL now, he would be admitting that he is as crap at gardening as he is at running a football club!

It was only a number of games ago that Lambert was saying “we are only xxx points from the top” now it’s “xxx points from the play offs”.

The quality in this league is absolutely garbage. A decent manager would be more than capable of winning this league with the squad we have.

Like Hoppy said in another thread, say we get to the play offs, given our record against the top ten sides in the past two years, do you honestly believe we would navigate through them? I don't.

Should Lambert remain, and fluke promotion, realistically we come straight back down if he is still manager.

I can believe we are even talking about the playoffs. Our form over the past 10 games is relegation form. We don't score any goals or create any chances. I'm more worried about being relegated the longer this circus drags on

Evans isn’t hoping anything. He doesn’t think about us at all.

Whoever the manager is Evans wouldn’t spend the amount required to build a squad capable of staying in the Championship so that’s kind of irrelevant.

The standard of opposition in this league is abysmal. Any half competent manager would have this league won at a canter with the squad we have, it's ridiculous we are where we are. If we could somehow get Paul Cook in i would fully expect us to get promoted.

The extra 10% performance that a better manager achieved would be sufficient to avoid relegation.

Our squad would also have a much higher value if we were a Championship club. We are not going to keep hold of all our ex academy midfielders promotion should stop them leaving in the cheap.

I admire your optimism but this squad would need a complete rebuild to have any hope of staying in the Championship, we are barely competitive in the Third Division and it’s not all down to Lambert.

Anything we got from player sales will disappear into Evans back pocket with a bare minimum, if anything, spent on the squad.

Given salary cap constraints, we couldn't spend the amount required, even if Evans was willing to do so. That's his problem - you now have to be prepared to lose as much each season just to stay in the Championship as Evans was putting in initially with not unreasonable expectations of getting into the Premier League.
The bigger problem is that Evans seems stuck with his "appoint a manager & let him manage" strategy. This only works if you appoint a good manager - e.g. Mick McCarthy. Evans has appointed 4 duds, including the current incumbent. Lambert will be gone by the end of the season & we need to roll the dice again in the hope we find a manager capable of rebuilding the squad virtually from scratch in the summer on a shoestring.

Absolutely spot on, what is next we are x points above the relegation places.. we are x points from safety. oh sh*t we are in league 3.
