Almost Complete clear out 21:30 - Jan 27 with 4038 viewscressi

I think when the new man takes over when summer comes and lots of contacts expire we should have a new beginning as this lot have not got the winning mentality
required to win anything . New players new attitude.

I was thinking about this earlier. I wouldn't be sorry to lose any of our current players. I respect the likes of Chambers but feel his time here is at an end. Actually i'd be gutted to lose KVY. He's the only one. Downes, Dozzell, Woolf, I just don't care anymore.

Truly impaired.

I’ve had similar thoughts and came to the conclusion I’d only be bothered about losing Teddy and Flynn (and possibly Dozzell). I normally like stability and some continuity, but I think most of this lot are a lost cause. I’d forgotten about KVY but would want to keep him if he can recover.

Possibly 17 out of contract players

chambers has been a constant figure in a failing team, it obviously doesn't all fall on him, however, he doesnt have that winner feel about him, he's lost so many games here that its deep within him now

Incredible to think the one player you're desperate not to lose is someone who has played 9 games for us, all well over a year ago. Don't blame you.

Judging by the last few games Downes makes the list too though.

I would think if we got rid of the likes of Chambers, Ward, Nsiala, Skuse, Nolan, Judge, Huws, Jackson, Sears and maybe Wright and Pryzbek and one of either Bishop or Downes.

I would think this would make a significant cut in the wage bill, then force a fresh and younger start.

The club has had a losing mentality for far too long (I can't think of comments that ex-players like Supple and Garvan said about the attitude within the club go deeper than that). I was hoping relegation would have kick started a revolution in the right direction, but it hasn't.

I think you are getting yourself a bit confused.

One of the reasons Lambert has been given a 5 year contract is to be able to rebuild once there has been the clear out this summer.

With the wage cap kicks in many of those departing PR will find they won't find it so easy once out into the real world, of far lower wages.

If Lambert was being judged on this seasons results alone, he would have been long gone by now. He is not.

This is part if turning round the club, so get used to it.

the salary cap hadn't been brought in when he got that contract extension. so that wasn't even something ME would have considered.

to confirm, you want PL as manager, still?

No 'rebuild' in the history has started with 2+ years of failure and ever-declining quality of football. We're failing with a significant finanicla advantage at the moment. It's not going to get better when that goes away.
Lambert is a fraud and your either a fraud or a fool to keep believing it.

We had a clear out and installed a load of younger/lower division players who apparently had a 'winning' mentality when Hurst came in. Remind us again how that ended?

One of the (many) problems of the ME era has been player churn. The sheer number of faceless loanees and short-contract players is incredible (Turnstile Blues did a good article on this). Although how someone like Emyr Hughes has managed to get 5 years at Town is a mystery.

It’d be good to build a bit more of a core, which would be next to impossible if you were starting completely from scratch. I think we’d end up in the same situation. The *idea* of building a team from the youth teams is right, it’s just that you can’t completely rely in it.

Anyway, I’m not sure the problem is this particular group’s mentality. I’d definitely want to keep Downes, Wolfenden, Dozzell and KVY, and I think Chambers’ role in keeping things together among the players despite the manager and chaos around the club isn’t appreciated. I’d like to see him stay in some form or other.

Be interesting what the new manager wants to do, I don't think there will be as big a clear out as some expect

Though it might be that people are thinking they would keep KYV exactly because we haven't seen him play under the current malaise of management, whilst all the others have had that misfortune.

Isn't a "complete clear out" inevitable if we don't go up (which we won't.)?

With the salary caps introduction surely we have no choice, no "ifs or buts" about it?

Joe do you not think we need a bit of a refresh though?

The core of this squad have been together for the last 3-4 years which has been one of the worst periods in the clubs history.

I think it is fair to say (regardless of the very poor management in that period) that overall these players are used to losing games, conceding goals and not scoring many. We have a losing mentality in the club.

A complete refresh this summer with a new manager and maybe a clear out is just what we need to reset.

Keep Bish, Dozzell and Downes if we can, get rid of the rest and start again.

Well there is that. The trouble with Bishop is that there's a good player in there and he gets injured a lot. The others just get injured a lot.

It's just not how it works in reality, especially if we can find some form between now and then under a new gaffer
