In March 2020 we were told (Coronavirus) 14:23 - Feb 2 with 4209 views | Mercian | If we let it spread unhindered we would be looking at a 125,000 deaths, if we act now it will stand between 20-30,000. Today we stand at 107,000 and will almost surely have more than 125,000 before this is over. We were also told the restrictions would last for 12 weeks before we can transition back to normality. 11 months later we still have no sign of that happening. We have been lied to over and over again.

Yeah, I'm kind of in a tangle myself here. My point is we should have been treated like adults from day 1 but we were not. A pizza shop gives a customer a pizza at 22.02 and gets a £200 fine. Farage, Cummings, Johnson's father and the SNP MP can flout the restrictions at will with no consequences. One rule for us.

Oh my. Defending the Conservatives based on their supposed honesty is a bold move. Good luck with that one! I'm off out for a drive. I agree. Like I said, if you are going to ask people to make hard sacrifices then be honest about what you're asking and the people doing the asking need to also embody those sacrifices themselves. We're all in this together quickly turns to absolute guff when those in power act as if they are exempt from reality. My only surprise is at the surprise people are now showing because the Conservatives haven't done that.

Fascinating read about how we were able to roll the vaccine out effectively by BlueBadger 31 Jan 2021 10:45Sadly, it's taken 100,000+ deaths and multiple scandals, plus billions wasted on contracts for their incompetent mates for them to realise it.
I don't think there's that much credit to be taken. I strongly suspect that if they could have found a way for their mates in the Efficient Private Sector to roll out vaccines, they would have.
And are probably still wondering how they can.

Although I have no idea what could be done at this point. It’s political unchartered territory.
Why can’t we just have all the info now? Or is this like a Netflix series with a cliffhanger at the end of every episode? What’s episode 3? More information about the pumps teaser? This thread aged well. Page one alone is a goldmine of TWTD's finest who we see little of these days through bans and/or ignorance to fault. [Post edited 2 Feb 2021 15:20]

Ha! The state of some of those replies. How dare you suggest that this government made up of people proven previously to be incompetent, were, er, incompetent. It's quite enlightening how many people lappd up the government's line at the time that they were following the science. When there are large numbers of scientists saying something different, it's not going to be as simple as that. There a big difference between the views of a single scientist and 'the science' too, which I think we may have fallen foul of given some of the people advising the government (such as Sunetra Gupta and the Swedish fella who's approach looks worse the longer this has gone on).

It's incorrect to say that people haven't given them credit for the vaccine rollout. There have been quite a few posts on here over the last week or so and they've pretty much all been complimentary about that specific element. It's quite possible to criticise most of their covid response but praise them for the vaccine rollout. It's looking like a national success story after all.

Oof. Keep that thread handy and just post it the next time a forum blowhard is holding court, dispensing their wonky wisdom from on high. That thread alone should be enough to shake the unflinching faith some on here seem to have in their own analytical skills. But it won't. Political point scoring indeed. In March 2020 we were told (Coronavirus) on 15:03 - Feb 2 by BlueBadger | We had a fair idea, from both China and Italy. We had a 3-6 week lead on the continent and did NOTHING. We had an opportunity to protect healthcare staff and instead, they downgraded PPE recommendations - hundreds have died, simply doing their job. They were told 'test, test, test' and didn't. Instead, they discharged thousands of our most vulnerable into care homes to facilitate a massacre of the vulnerable. We had an opportunity to purchase a functional, proven track and trace system from overseas and instead spent many times more than it would have cost bunging money as posh incompetents. The experts all predicted massive rises in infections if we just willy-nilly repopened school and universities. They ignored it. If 'nobody' knew what was coming, how have w still fared worse than nearly ever other nation on Earth. Blood is on their hands. Fück this government, fück anyone who voted for them and fück anyone still defending them. |
But at least the Jockey Club (sponsors of matt halfcock) were able to have the money-spinning Cheltenham Festival. Your trouble, BB, is you have no sense of priorities.

In March 2020 we were told (Coronavirus) on 17:56 - Feb 2 with 1222 views | Guthrum | The early figures were estimates, when we knew very little about the virus. There was only the sketchiest idea of even the symptoms at that stage, let alone how to treat it, how easily it could be passed on, whether it would come in waves, etc. A lot has changed in ten months.
