In a study by the University of Oxford they found 218,000 Britons spend more than £1,800 a month on gambling, the project analysed the spending of 6.5 million Lloyds bank customers. While some will be able to sustain this, there will be many who can't, these are incredible levels of gambling.

Nothing to do with the thread at all - it’s literally just the last one I posted in.

I’m gonna be off here for a fair while. Whilst I haven’t posted much in recent years (compared to the old me from 2016 anyway), I’m doing it more and more and at the same time, am also scrolling social media more and more. And in recent months, like during my college days instagram and the like has become a bit of a trigger for flailing mental health for me. The recent years have generally been good bar a few tough months last year so it’s just a small setback.

I know it’s a bit look at me when people post that they’re leaving - albeit it is usually in a flounce. In this case, I just know it’s the right thing to do. And I also know I have no temptation to look when my account isn’t active. It’s incredible how often I inadvertently go from here to scrolling Instagram and Twitter without thinking. With the small chance I matter enough on here for the random speculation that occurs (a forum classic haha) when my account is gone, hopefully someone can see this and pass it on or whatever. All will be fine. I graduate in September and would hope I’ll be in a better place by then and in which case, I’m 100% sure I’ll be back. Keep safe troops. Rommy

G'luck Rommy, incl with your degree result, hope you get a dream job out of that, you've clearly worked very hard for it.

Great that you're self-aware, I know that social media can actually be a bit of an addiction - reasons vary, but I've experienced this too, much of it being to do with sheer laziness - it's so, so much easier to stay sitting down in front of the screen than get up to do all the dreary, tiring chores!

Take care 👍

Think they are mispresenting the figures - isn't the owner of Brentford a professional gambler by the way? Maybe there isnt enough gambling in football

There's already enough risk without adding gambling into the equation, surely?

Interesting point. The matched betting company I am a member of has had 120,000 UK members so there could be plenty of people moving money around for that reason.

Not to minimise the problem the UK has with gambling of course.

Agreed. I tried a bit of matched betting and sometimes on the golf or horses, I probably deposited a few k into accounts, with minimal losses (say £10-20).

As I have talked about many times on here I am a compulsive gambler so I gave up gambling about 11 years ago. If any one on here would ever like to talk about their gambling please just send me a pm. It really is a brutal thing to he a problem gambler but there is always a way out, my addiction was severe but the past 11 years have given me a far better life

Insane.

I think I saw somewhere that 5% of gamblers account for something like 90% of bookies business.
