Do these supporters who do not want our club in the hands of foreign owners not realise that if evans had got it right when he took over we would have been sold off years ago, if this goes ahead they’re only doing what he’s failed at

I am not sure what has been going on with other social media sources, but I have seen absolutely no one on TWTD unhappy with the potential takeover on the account they're American.
It’s change and change brings fear. The club needs change but that obviously comes with risk. If this change goes tits up it doesn’t mean it was wrong to try as with the great messiah mick mccarthy. We were delirious with joy when Evans bought but what an unmitigated disaster he has been.

I’d rather have local owners, because the motives of anyone else are murky. My fear is that American (or Canadian, or Thai, or French, or Russian, or Saudi etc. etc.) owners only want to use the club as a risky shot to making a killing, or launder their reputation/ill-gotten gains.

Erm, that doesn’t make much sense, but...

‘Make a killing’ isn’t that what Marcus evans set out to do?

That’s modern football unfortunately. We risked it with Evans and what good has it done us? In for a penny....

To make a killing they would have to make us bloody successful.

Yeah, and failed. The thing is, regardless of how dismally run the club is, he has essentially taken on the debt caused by that. My fear is that new owners load the club with debt, it all falls apart and we’re left in an even worse situation where the owners aren’t even keeping the club running — they just move on.
However, this is all part of football’s madness. I guess the days of the local toffs, or local businesses/fans forming consortia to run clubs have passed.

I think there may have been some on Radio Suffolk making this complaint, providing the context for the OP.

I know, but Evans has underwritten his own failure.
Having said that, it is hard how to see how the situation could be worse than now. For years we heard how the alternative to Evans was going out of business, but how many clubs does that actually happen to?
Coventry had appalling owners, but they’re now doing better than us.
I would just rather than club’s ownership and management had something to do with its community, in the same way Norwich does. I don’t want us to be like Brentford, Southampton etc. It feels soulless, apart from anything.
Probably just showing my age.

Sheepshanks and co failed to look after the club's long-term interests.
I always liked Sheepy as it goes, but do still feel let down at the lack of foresight shown towards the end of that era.
That said, so much has changed in the game, and the world in general, since then.

Very true — by the end, Sheepshanks and Bowden simply ended up taking their company cars before putting the club in administration, leaving local businesses unpaid.
Perhaps it’s just nostalgia. Or maybe it needs proper fan involvement, or even the council. But none of that’s going to happen so I guess we just all see what happens.

Personally speaking, I couldn’t care less about the nationality of the owners. As long as they are competent, respectful of the club and fans and have a well thought out plan fir growth than nationality is if no importance.

Things could be a lot worse than now.
And since you are using Coventry as an example... Would you be happier than now if we were playing our home games at Carrow Road?

As far as this goes, the mention of US pension funds being involved makes me think it less likely. As I think has been mentioned elsewhere, high risk investments are not usually a large part of their portfolio. They have a lot of money and usually manage it fairly conservatively. They must have been convinced by someone that there is money to be made here. That really does involve getting back to the Premiership and I imagine they know that. If they're willing to invest enough to get us to the Promised Land then their money's as good as anyone's. Of course local owners with wads of cash would be ideal but it's not been happening.

Strikes me that we are fooked whichever way you cut it. Football clubs are now traded like commodities by individuals or corporate bodies with their own agendas. Invariably they will pay lip service to the importance of the fans only in so far as it will enhance their investment. As for the fans - so many are fickle. They expect and demand glory and will not hesitate to turn on the club if they do not get it. Others have town in their DNA and will support the club come what may. Unfortunately the corporate vehicle is most unlikely to reciprocate their loyalty. I don’t see the relationship changing for the better anytime soon. Depressing really so I’ll stick in the present and enjoy today’s result.

Some fans will not be happy with with whatever happens to the Club (half empty types), but personally, we have reached such an all time low we should welcome and embrace any new ownership and the inevitable changes that will follow. I am looking forward to the ride, never a dull moment, we cant live in the past. Here's a decent song for you.
