Both Lambert and Cook inherited a very poor squad of players so without a series investment from the owner for new players this club will not progress the only good season we have had in the last 10-12 years was when Murphy scored 20 plus goals so priority must be given to getting 1 or 2 good strikers who individually or jointly can get 20+ goals because our current set of strikers will never achieve that | | | |

Nothing to do with Cook. Everything to do with poor players with bad attitudes, badly coached at a club that strives to be mediocre.
Maybe the players know the owner is comfy in league one or lower, maybe they are ‘trying the manager out’ by not giving it their all. Wouldn’t be the first time. If can happen to Bobby Robson in his early days, it can certainly happen to a lower league manager like Cook.

Lambert was awful but the fact is Cook has come in on the end of a 3 match winning run - the players who apparently weren't massive Lambert fans should be on a high and their recent form isn't terrible.
It would be lying to say its concerning Cook couldn't simply utilise that positivity to generate at least a half decent performance out of the players. | | | |

Just to elaborate as I feel like the message of my OP has been lost a little, I like Paul Cook and he was my first/only choice for the job (and has been for a couple of years so I was v. excited when he joined). I'm just disappointed that we were so off the pace, out fought and out thought by a mid-table team (and fair play to Gillingham, they thoroughly deserved the win). I realise it's extremely early days and he's barely met the players so far, and that it will take time to turn things around. And as far as I'm concerned his record at his previous clubs shows he absolutely can do that (although a change of ownership will hopefully make that process smoother, if it happens). So in no way am I saying he's suddenly a bad manager or anything like that (which while I can understand people took it that way as I didn't phrase it as well as I could have, was not my intention in the OP). Just that it's not the start we all hoped for.
Guess I'm just frustrated at how bad we've been on average over such a long period, and I was only hoping to see some kind of evidence of positivity, fight and willingness to attack the opposition goal today, even if it was only small (like in the last 3 games).
Also, I posted this immediately after Gillingham's 3rd goal so I was bit hacked off at the time lol [Post edited 6 Mar 2021 18:48]
