Those lucky enough to still have mums, what did you get them for Mother's Day? 22:17 - Mar 14 with 2876 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

The reason I ask is mine's birthday's on Wednesday, and it's a nightmare thinking of ONE present, let alone two in a couple of days (I have this issue every year and it never gets easier).

I sent flowers for today (slightly different than your bog standard as they had bulbs with them so she can grow her own as well, thus making it longer lasting than flowers normally are. She thought they were lovely, and it was a great idea about the longevity).

But now what? It needs to be something not plant-based! Help me TWTD!

It was always a card, chocks and a plant. Not a fan of cut flowers.

In her last years it was a little hard when she had dementia in that she knew what it was and was pleased, but sort of didn’t and then forgot, all within the hour. Hard to explain.

You only get one mum (and some sadly don’t even get that). Appreciate her while you can.

I'm not usually a fan of cut flowers either but have got loads of plants over the years and this was a bit different as you could pay a bit extra to get the bulbs and grow your own afterwards. Plus they're a Real Living Wage Employer.

The letterbox ones work out better value than your bog-standard Interflora type fare.

Card, chocolates, bottle of wine. Bosh, jobs a good’un.

She did comment “thought you’d have gotten me a book as well”. The cheek

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

Nothing. She’s dead.

Jeeze, bit morbid. Why post and reply with that? Seems a bit strange to be so matter of fact on a forum. Surely in that case it's better just to say nothing

That sounds good, not heard of it being delivered.

EDIT: I found these guys;

Looks like this could be the winner. Excellent shout! She loves stuff like this, particularly from Devon (and especially as no-one can travel at the moment, this is bringing Devon to her!)

Check out the cafes and tearooms near where she lives, an awful lot are doing afternoon tea deliveries. Giving a local business the custom helps them survive in these times and ensures all the items are freshly baked that day - you can't beat a freshly baked scone rather than one akin to a prepacked Tesco variety.

This is what I got for mothers day and it was bloody delish!

Yeah must admit I thought that was a bit odd and unnecessary on such a thread.

I think it was just a little reminder that it's a difficult time of year for a lot of people. Not suggesting the thread shouldn't have been made just that it's going to upset some people.

Truly impaired.

Chocloate, cup cakes and sweets for mine from the grandchildren to Nanny rather than anything specifically from Me

New set of PJs, some flowers and we did an afternoon tea from BMC Cakery for my wife from the kids though.

We don't go particularly overboard on anything to be fair - just spending time together without having other commitments

Time is probably the greatest gift most mothers could ask for, but in these circumstances that's really difficult isn't it?

I sent a plant and a card to my mum, and had a nice FaceTime with her and my old man for an hour or so yesterday morning. It's not the same, but it's better than nothing.

I'd be amazed if it would upset anyone, but have changed the subject title to be a bit more sensitive.

I think that it is nice that you edited your headline because, as you know from the thread that I started, I lost my mum last month.

It was her funeral last Wednesday.

You make the most of your time that you have with your mum, I was lucky that mine was my mum for 95 and a bit years.

edit-I had not seen what went before in this thread when making my post, I have now.

edit2-she was NOT my mum for 95 and a bit years but she was for just over 70.

No she lives with my dad, they never get takeaways and she doesn't really have a particular favourite food. She suffers with IBS so tends to eat fairly safe/non-adventurous food, so not sure that's quite right for them.

In terms of booze she loves brandy but I've got that so many times before.

How about Metaxa? It's a Greek Brandy-like spirit, and the very smooth and classy 12 year old is currently on special offer at the Devil's Supermarket:

Sounds interesting but a little too fancy for my mum!

I'm going with the cream tea delivery, thanks for the suggestions all.

Try a photobook, pics of you.... pets, grand kids anything that brings back memories are good and shows a bit of thought.
