Anti vax news. 22:25 - Mar 15 with 4949 views | Lord_Lucan | Don’t shoot the messenger. Currently staying in Dorset. My colleague down here just got a text from his girlfriend saying that EU have mothballed AZ jab. This of course may be incorrect - she is a nurse at Bournemouth hospital. I think she’s an anti. She reckons that very few of her colleagues are taking the jab. She does sound a bit of a fruit loop. [Post edited 15 Mar 2021 22:29]

Anti vax news. on 09:09 - Mar 16 by hype313 | It's all political, with Merkel and Macron trying to save face. Absolute madness, 37 cases in 17m, also correlation does not imply causation, these blood clots are what the experts expect at any given time, actually they are less than that, so in essence, getting the AZ jab means it's less of a risk getting DVT! |
My mate just likened it to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Unfortunately it's the people who are going to suffer. They have been fed information saying the AZ vaccine is essentially harmful for many weeks now so even if the EMA say it's fine today the take-up will be small. France and Italy both back over 25000 cases a day yesterday and rising (5000 in the UK and falling) because they now have the B117 variant we had to deal with over the winter. Italy back in lockdown, France will probably follow and the German union of Surgeons also asking for another lockdown. It's going to be hard to change that if people are unwilling to take the AZ vaccine. A few countries in Europe look really stuck now. SB [Post edited 16 Mar 2021 9:14]

The other thing to note is that AZ is rolling it out at cost whereas Pfizer are rolling it out at a small profit, as always follow the money. But as you say, the EU are sacrificing lives for profit, this won't end well, we are already seeing Merkel's party suffering huge losses in their elections and Macron is running at 52% against Le Pen's 48%, add the margins of people who are shy about voting (similar to the closet Trump/Brexit/Tory voters) and that margin could soon change.

"The other thing to note is that AZ is rolling it out at cost whereas Pfizer are rolling it out at a small profit, as always follow the money." I did think of this yesterday but I thought it was too cynical. The chances of getting Le Pen are increasing daily, that is simply awful. SB

Our figures are hardly falling now, suspect it is due to increased testing since schools re-opened. Granddaughter, aged 7, has to isolate for ten days as do the rest of her class.

Anti vax news. on 22:46 - Mar 15 by Lord_Lucan | I don’t disagree. Lucan is happily vaxed and I believe the EU thing is largely (pathetically) political. I’m more interested in the seemingly growing reports of NHS staff refusals. |
This is why vaccine passports are bad.

Absolutely, it's only a little prick after all, over in seconds and you hardly feel it go in.

Anti vax news. on 08:20 - Mar 16 by Cheltenham_Blue | Hold on. What you are accusing some staff of Dorset Healthcare NHS Trust of here, is misconduct, which they could be struck off from the NMC or GMB for. I assume you have evidence of the hard core of staff 'not keen on the vaccine'? As opposed to 'stuff I read on social media'? [Post edited 16 Mar 2021 10:09]

He didn't accuse the Trust of anything. He said that a number of staff were not keen on the vaccine. I have a friend who works at a hospital in a neighbouring county to Dorset. A fairly senior role but not front line. A couple of weeks ago, he happened to mention that a third of the staff had refused to have the vaccine. He then told me this was confidential, so I won't give further details. Perhaps its the South West - a rum lot down here! Might be BS of course, but I'm pretty sure that he didn't pick this up from social media. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yep, I try not to be too cynical, but it's clear hat this is one of, if not, the main reason behind all this nonsense.

I'll rephrase, 'accusing 'staff' at Dorset Healthcare' etc etc.

Funnily enough, I know several nurses who are currently refusing the vaccine, regardless of producer. I don't know any of my ambulance colleagues who are even sceptical.

A few Nurses refusing is one thing, "a hard core of staff" is something different. Out of interest, of the nurses refusing, what proportion would identify as BAME? or none at all?

Not at the moment, there are thousands of vaccines just sat there.

It is very strange. I cannot for the life of me think why anyone in the front line would refuse the vaccine? I don't think this particular hospital has a high proportion of BAME staff, probably less than those in larger conurbations close by. I found Badger's link to be somewhat depressing. Over 200,000 health and care workers refusing to have the jab. Putting patients at risk, as the report says, but also, of course, continuing the risk to themselves. Meanwhile, like Lucan, I'm eagerly awaiting my vax - on Thursday!
