Cook at Colchester tonight. on 09:37 - Mar 24 by catch74 | I’m imagining Lambert didn’t go and watch matches, not sure football is really his thing. Win win for Cook, gets to watch some live football and if anyone takes his fancy, they’re just down the road. |
I see that Cook said he went partly because he's a bit of a Tranmere fan. Wouldn't surprise me if he went along with John McGreal, just for a natter. (I have no idea if they know each other from before, but when you move to a new place, it's good to make friends.) And you're so right about Lambert, - he never seems to get much joy from the sport. I'd love him to find something to do that he enjoys more.

I've heard that suggested as well from a well-informed source. However, I'm not sure PC has made decisions regarding his long-term staff as yet. Certainly get the impression he's in the running for a role even if he's not definitely coming in.

I’ve also heard he’s looking to add 6-7 to his staff this summer. McGreal and Richardson as 2 assistants, GK coach to replace Walker with the other 3/4 as medical/scouting staff.

Why would he replace Walker? Seems strange unless he has another role lined up.

.... because both he and Gill are on one year rolling contracts and they’re not ‘Cooks’ men. Regardless of what the club say about ‘continuity’z

I thought it was strange when the club said they would both be staying. Very rare a new manager doesn't bring in his own group of staff.

Direct. No fear with attacking intent. Room for improvement but one who might not cost the earth to sign. Cook is very much a trial and error manager and likes to get the best out of players with potential which for me is why bennetts is one of his favoured players. For example. He does like experience too. Not afraid to shop for experienced players to lend a hand. But doesnt lean in experience to get the team out of trouble. He likes to have people around the country looking at potentials. We will see some random links out if nowhere pop up and some surprising signings There will be a lot of signings people wont be excited about. But that's the beauty if Cook. He is able to work with those he signs. Very few of cook signings havent gone onto have a solid careers [Post edited 25 Mar 2021 12:44]

Whether Cook can entice 'his' staff here is another question. Richardson I presume will come in following Wigan's takeover, but Anthony Barry (who was his first team coach) is now in the same role at Chelsea (and the FAI) and Nick Colgan is GK coach at Forest. Will be interesting to see how it shapes up. [Post edited 25 Mar 2021 12:41]

I think with McGreal being lined up. Hes definitely having to look at some alternatives. But one things for sure. He knows how to set up a proper team of staff from coaching to recruitment.

Colchester are just about to fall out of the Football League. We shouldn't be signing anyone from them. If this is the best Cook can manage we are doomed.

Time alone will tell, but I suspect Poku will turn out to be a far better player than KVY.
