Bar update for those that are interested 14:10 - Apr 19 with 2473 viewsBluefish

We have been approved without any changes to conditions. Very long hearing as the 3 objectors put together very long presentations but it just wasn't valid.

The hard work starts here. As a reminder it is a not for profit company that me and 3 others run, we do it as volunteers and everything goes back into the community. We will have a 7 day a week bar that will also be used for community groups in the daytime and open as a coffee shop. The building was very run down and mothballed by the council when we took it on. It has been transformed thanks to grants and fundraising. It will be something very special

Derby so not expecting many TWTD visitors unless Rotherham can pull off a great escape and then you are all welcome next season

Well done. Just been nosey but why did some people object?

Is your bar going to be a full time job now?

Nice one. Wish you well with it all.

They had all sorts of random reasons including the developer of a nearby housing estate not fully building the paths. The bar is at a park, we have 3 football pitches and 2 x 3g 5 a side pitches. When the place was mothballed it would naturally attract youths from all over to come and hang out and cause mischief, this is exactly why we decided to save the place. The objectors said this meant it can't have a bar because there had been historical random incidents of trouble in the past. They cited a fire in a kids playground the opposite end of the park and firmly out of our control of remit. It was all so bizarre but they made one hell of a fuss and present very long PowerPoints. They also talked about parking issues when football is on and swearing by adult team players. The houses of all 3 are new builds and the football was there long before. One said a bar would mean some religions would no longer be able to visit the park.

It isn't a job for me I am a volunteer but it takes up lots of my time, I'll be there all evening tonight. I will have a full time manager and some casual staff

Seems some very random indeed. Well done, once again.

Great to hear BlueFish. As ever, if you need some football beers on, just shout, I’m only in Newark. Also, if it’s any use, I believe The Weighbridge Inn, Burton, is run by a Town fan. Onwards and upwards.

Still an ongoing minefield that one. Been holding off for the license decision. I've spoken to loads of companies, some are outrageous priced others seem total scammers. We will take the plunge soon

Cheers for the offer. The brewery have installed but the bar isn't fitted yet. Hopefully tomorrow then we can get some beer flowing and the real troubles start

We do need to talk! We have signed with GK but I think plenty of scope especially for some Wayne brewney

Oh are you? That might explain the local delivery I got then.

Oh and Fishers, PM me the place as I'm not far. Might check it out.

You are always welcome. We won't be open to a while but I did buy a 120 inch projector screen this week so you the East Midlands contingent now have somewhere for TV games (if we ever get any). ITFC will take priority in The Crossbar

That's the one opposite the Travelodge? I never knew that but have had a few beers in there, used to stay in Burton every so often when I was covering the country repping, wish I'd have known that.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Great stuff, I’ll come over on my bike one evening once you’re open.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I think there’s a microbrewery in Ilkeston that’s run by a Town fan too but I’ve never managed to work out where.
