End of next season.

“ Nick has a year to go and he obviously has had a very strong season. Those are the types of player you want to keep at the club.” - they said they will look at his contract this summer.

Interesting, says here it is "end of this season".

Also says it runs out June 2021 on transfermarkt.

Transfermarkt have him expiring this Summer, which I imagine is where the idea comes from.

Ludicrous idea anyway. He's on £15k a week at Stoke, so unless we come up with an elaborate way of upping turnover that would be about 20% of our total permitted wage bill, more or less.

I would probably trust what his manager says over any website to be fair

the new owners are buying 20,000 tickets every home match - sell out every week!

This is tongue in cheek, but is there anything really stopping an owner doing this if they wanted?

Fantastic news, think Celtic are away to offer him about 25k a week, so suspect we'll have to go quite a bit higher than that to tempt him away from European football. Shows we mean business etc.

Ffs fans need to get real on this:

Yes we have some money and pulling power
Yes Cook will be able to sell the club to players who will be quality at this level

However,
- we are not going to get Championship players in their prime here
- we will be able to get top end league one players, and even some who have offers from low end Championship clubs
- we may be able to get out of contract Championship players who are slightly past their prime, but Cook needs to ensure the hunger is still there
- we will be able to get first picking of league one out of contract players
- we may even be able to entice / pay for other top end league one players

Cook will I expect assemble a squad to compete at top end of league one from this, and also be ready to start in the Championship. But he won’t be able to get some of the players like Powell being bandied around...........pay will be an issue, by why on earth would Powell drop a division and move across the country - when Stoke will want to keep him, and he’d otherwise have plenty of cha,
Championship offers (even near his home)

The days of players dropping leagues in their prime to play for certain managers are long gone

Could also say Nick, we'll give you a £3 mill sign on fee, smaller weekly wage, but a high % promotion bonus...

Bristol city released a few names that I remember from the days of playing them, and thought a few would be a hell of an addition to this team.

They may have dropped off the last couple of years however as I’ve not seen a second of championship football

We’ll be good again... one day

Good job that this was source-free Def Info instead then, wasn't it?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

At 27 he will be looking for that last 'big' contract.

Suspect that will be in the Champ.

Last big contract at 27?

I'm not convinced we should be bringing in players who will be taking a step down rather than the step up, I question the hunger, the only exception being a keeper and a centre half..

Find me the new Nick Powell, there's a challenge..

Stop over thinking things.

He’s an outstanding player.

We’d be lucky to have him.

Liam Walsh was a youngster at Everton so may well be known to Jeffers. Apparently was decent for Coventry at this level on loan.

Can’t see how we sign anyone in this bracket when we are only allowed wages at 60% of turnover.

The only Muff in Town.
