Not a race I enjoy much now the cars are wider. But mazepin is gonna make it interesting.

Not sure he'll cause much of an issue other than an early safety car or red flag to recover his pranged car! I can't see him listing more than a couple of laps.

Tends to be even more of a procession than usual doesn't it. Quite different these days to when it first started.

If he manages to keep it out of the wall for long enough, I can envisage him ignoring blue flags for lap after lap and holding someone up for ages given how narrow the track is there.

So 200 miles in just under 4 hours.

Amazing how far technology has advanced things to the point where pretty much the whole board would have gone quicker at some point.

You probably got close to that on the LEJOG!

Just hope he qualifies last. Well maybe that's a given. But hes not a driver you want to be going into the first corner with.

I'm afraid it's one of the first I would scrap nowadays. I believe the cars are 2.4 metres wide and there are only about 4 corners you can have 2 cars side by side at the speeds they do.

It's not like the car stuck behind him is likely to be overtaken by his rival behind at monaco anyway!

Unless they get stuck behind him while their rival is diving in the pits to go for an undercut!

Love F1, hate Monaco. Glorified processional car stacking race. Unless It’s a wet race.

The only street circuit worth mentioning is Baku.

Im not sure Verstappen is either and he'll be near the front.

look Mazepin is not the best F1 driver on the grid and Im certainly no fan of his, but he scored points in both GP2 races there in 2019 & did finish ahead of his current team mate.

I know Id struggle to complete a lap at racing speed around there, the tv pictures really dont do it justice how difficult that place is, how narrow and how steep some of the sections are, so anyone who can race at speed round there should deserve our respect

Best Monaco race I ever saw was the 1996 European GP. Wet race, hardly anyone finished Olivier Panis won his only race.

I remember hearing someone (Martin Brundle, maybe?) describe Monaco like this:
‘If someone suggested adding a new circuit similar to Monaco to the F1 calendar, they would not be taken seriously, but they would be considered just as mad if they suggested removing Monaco from the F1 calendar.’ (or words to that effect).
I think this is the perfect way to describe F1 in Monaco. Yes, the races are usually a procession, but it would be such a shame if it was scrapped. There’s something really special about Monaco, and while nobody would ever want a full season of Monaco GPs, having it once a year is the right amount. There are 23 races in a season this year, but Monaco is so unique, and in my opinion, should never be scrapped.

And it's not as though a lack of overtaking necessarily means a boring race. The most famous example is 1992, where Nigel Mansell in a dominant Williams was unable to get past Ayrton Senna. The 2011 race was ruined by the red flag six laps from the end when Petrov and Alguersuari crashed, but that could have been an absolute cracker with Vettel leading on very old tyres (1 stop) from Alonso (2 stops) and Button (3 stops). 2012 was fascinating with Webber, Rosberg, Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton and Massa all close together in the top six for the entire race. 2014 was great too (Marussia's first points), as was 2016 because it was wet, and 2018 when Ricciardo led with less power. As I said before, it would be a real shame if Monaco was scrapped.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

Mazepin has shown though he is struggling to drive an f1 car. I dread to think how he is going to do this weekend. For safety I'd be tempted to suspend him for it lol.

You are spot on about max. I've watched a few Monaco race highlights today and hes barely finished any of them. The fact he is so desperate to get on over Hamilton will imo cause him to take a trip to the barrier.

I'm gonna go mazepin out first corner. First lap
Verstappen out 20 laps just outside the casino tunnel chicane.

Talk of street circuits remind me of how in an idle moment I tried to devise an Ipswich GP course. Came up with:

Start/Finish West End Road
Sir Alf Way
Portman Road
Churchmans Hairpin
Princes Street
Franciscan Way
Greyfriars Chicanes
Star Lane
Waterworks Street
Bond Street
Majors Corner
Crown Street
St Matthews
Norwich Road
Chevalier Street
Yarmouth Road

Just popped that onto Google Maps, 3.3 miles. so probably about a 55 lap race.

Mind you, it does occur to me that if you're in an F1 car approaching 170mph, and you hit the Yarmouth Road bridge, you are likely to land somewhere in Maidenhall.
