Would be 100% a great signing

Excellent news.

Following on from Saffers and Beckets comments if everybody lists who they picked for that question that could make up next season's starting line up!

I picked Charlie Kirk from Crewe, thought he looked very good home & away.

Would be delighted if we get Burns in.

I wonder what kind of fee we are looking at given they triggered a year extension.

Surely we'll have to stump up some cash as well if Burns is any good?

He appears to do with ease what Edwards flusters over most games.

Pretty similar (Burns slightly worse) stats, actually...

No chance.

It's a massively depressed market.

I'd be surprised if we have to pay more than 150-200k plus Donacien IMO.

How do you know it's a depressed market? The transfer window hasn't opened yet and thus no cash transfers have happened.

I think there is no way it'll be 150k +JD, going to be at least 500k and probably more unless you think the two players are of near equal quality and if you think that why are we getting him?

No chance. I suspect there will be a very small fee + Donacien (including us partially paying him up) but nothing like £500k. He's a decent player but has 1 year left on his deal and Fleetwood not financially in the best of positions.

This is classic ITFC fan thinking. Inflating the prices of targets and downplaying the value of our own 'assets'.

I listed him as the best player we faced in the TWTD questionnaire, if that means anything to anyone.

You'd find half a dozen lower half L1 clubs that would take him without trying too hard. Solid, dependable and they liked him a lot at Fleetwood last season. He's worth more as a player transfer than if you were looking to sell for cold hard cash.

Who did you go for Joe?

Jack Taylor of Peterborough who i though ran the show against us in 2 games.

Seems strange for Burns to get 30 votes - he did nothing of any note in the away fixture and scored a consolation (and played well) in a game that we were 3-0 up within half an hour of!

He ran Kenlock ragged in the defeat at Fleetwood....

He's also been one of Fleetwood's most consistent performers over the last couple of years and they've been hovering around the top six in that time.

That's fair, but I'd still be surprised if we're not stumping up some dosh alongside foisting Donacien on them.

Not sure Donacien will be involved. I speculated as much as seemed to make sense, but has been suggested that that's not necessarily the case.

Or I just disagree with your assumed valuation of JD given he has been unable to make an impression at all here. I could just as easily say you have blue tinted glasses with regards to your validation of JD.

What do you value JD at? If we say 250k then your only valuing Burns at 400k which seems very low given what the majority have said in this thread.

They finished 15th this season so not sure that is hovering around the top 6....!

I liked the look of him, he seems a decent signing and if the deal works with Donacien going other way it's very good bit of business - but it's a clear recency bias for fans to think he is the best player we played against when he is in a team that were 3-0 down after half an hour on final day of the season here!

5 goals and 2 assists this season, 2 goals and 5 assists last season - his stats compare unfavourably to Gwion Edwards over a similar period in a totally goal shy team

I'm hugely surprised you're judging Burns in a final day dead rubber with most of the Fleetwood squad on the beach. If anything, Burns proved he still had the drive and determination that day to make an impression with a fine solo goal in a meaningless game.

I'd say your second paragraph is about right. If as Phil suggests above, JD isn't involved I'd be very, very surprised if we are paying more than £400k cash for him. 1 year left on his deal, suspect one of their higher earners as given a deal when they were 'going for it' and their owner is now rowing back on spending. He's a solid L1 performer and has a lot of attributes PC likes but not someone Champ clubs will be looking at for example.

I have no real idea what you are on about here, and at best I think you are very much putting words in my mouth - I haven't said I don't rate him, I've said it would be a decent signing and a good bit of business.

I just think it is very much recency bias for people to think he is the best player we faced this season because he played well against us in the most recent game

What I'm saying is that most people rated Burns highly after our first game with Fleetwood at Highbury, rather than the final day game. I remember vividly how hard and high he pressed and kept Kenlock pretty much in his own defensive third for most of the night.
