I know the rules are rules... on 15:06 - Jun 21 with 2110 views | Ely_Blue | The rules are the rules regardless, much the same as the guy with the mask in Singapore, if you do the crime and get caught then you take the punishment

I know the rules are rules... on 15:08 - Jun 21 with 2105 views | StokieBlue | 70mph is plenty fast enough for a country our size where the distances aren't huge and the roads are pretty crowded. Even if you put it up to 80mph and maintained that speed for an entire hour you'd only manage 10 more miles in an hour, it's not going to make much of a different on most trips. Does it matter if it takes 7.5 minutes or 8.5 minutes to get from Ipswich to Felixstowe? SB

Depends on whether you need to be there in 7.5 minutes or not

I know the rules are rules... on 15:25 - Jun 21 with 1997 views | Swansea_Blue | It does seem a bit harsh, but them's the rules. His training doesn't come into it. There's maybe an argument that it should, but it'd be opening up a can of worms. Ultimately a one size fits all law is the fairest and easiest way to go about things, even if there's a whole host of things that affect safety at any given speed (weather, type of car, experience of driver, business of road, etc.). If he got off, it's be opening up accusations of favouritism too.

Yes, that wasn’t an entirely serious comment

I know the rules are rules... on 15:31 - Jun 21 with 1939 views | HARRY10 | you forgot to mention "The court heard he already had three points on his licence and had previously attended a speed awareness course." that means two previous convictions, minimum hardly harsh, I would say
I know the rules are rules... on 15:34 - Jun 21 with 1909 views | Timefliesbyintheblue | He did have form, already had points on his licence, and had previously attended a speed awareness course. Without that, yes possibly the punishment would have appeared harsh, but I guess he knew the risk he was taking.

That's a good point. Devil in the detail and all that. So presumably there's a good chance he'd have got off with a speed awareness course only if it was a first offence? (I've no idea as I've never been caugh..., er I mean I never broken the speed limit).
