There were some frankly disgusting, vile and xenophobic tweets/whatsapp messages during and after the game on Tuesday night.
In light of this, I propose we get a thread going showing some appreciation for our German neighbours.
I'll start-
The beer: They sell them in litre tankards in the Aldstadt of Dusseldorf. The general cost of beer is reasonably low too.
The people: In my experience of my trips to Germany, I have found Germans to be exceedingly warm and friendly.
The football: Obscenely cheap tickets by English football standards and smoking, drinking and standing during the games itself is a brilliantly unique and fantastic experience (especially to those aged 30 and under like my good self). The fan ownership of clubs and the commitment and culture of not selling its soul also makes German football pretty special. There have been some absolutely cracking German national teams in the past too.
Fortuna Dusseldorf: a special and crazy bunch of lads/lasses that have instigated off their own back a special relationship between us and them.
Kraftwerk: Might not be to everyone's tastes but I like them. Would love to see them live. Special mention to Rammstein too.
Oktoberfest: Looks fun, but never been. I hope that changes after the pandemic.
Overall, its a cracking place and gets a 10/10 from me.
On an unrelated side note, I am trying to learn German through an app, and after a strong start of learning basic words, I am faltering. This is made especially harder by the German language having both masculine and feminine words for the same thing.

I lived in Köln for a year and I love the Germans. So welcoming, friendly and helpful. They love a party and a drink but rarely (never in my experience) act in an inappropriate manner. Football is great (I only got to one match, but it was pittance for a Bundesliga match, €20 or something, plus we had Glüwein as it was winter), the cities are lovely and they are a people who recognise and accept the mistakes from their history and embrace being good people and a result. It's fair to say they are a team whose results I look out for more than most now (just not against England!). Edit: and pretzels with beer. That bready salty goodness is perfect! The rest of the food... Not so great.

Nothing against Germany at all. Shared some lovely cycling experiences on Mallorca with many lovely German folk. Only been there twice, seems very clean & organised. But it's about time we beat them at Football..!!!!

Any BMW…brilliant cars.
Had 3 months working, close to Dusseldorf in 78 with a group of construction guys from Ipswich, back in the days when newspapers were full of job adverts to work there. Couple of years later the British comedy drama series.. 'Auf Weiderhesen, Pet' became a very popular series on tv depicting life as a Brit, working in Germany on the construction sites. Great memories apart from I didn't make it back to see Town at Wembley in the Charity Shield

Music- Most of the Western Canon is composed by or in the style of Germans. Bach came up with most of the harmonic conventions.
Food- Doesn't try to be something it isn't, simple but effective. Also the most satisfying beer I've ever had was in Diez.
Football- The 2014 side is one of my favourite ever with some of my favourite ever players in Muller, Klose and Neuer. Also my favourite European side in Bayern Munich.
Also has a fascinating history, enjoyable culture and pleasant landscape.
I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

Surnames: obviously we know about Kuntz, but I went to a meeting in Germany and sat next to a Markus W*nk. I was professional and it didn’t snigger as I didn’t want to rub him up the wrong way. Nice bloke. There’s also a Mount W*nk in Southern Germany. Who says the Germans have no humour?

I lived in Germany as an army brat for a couple of years. As a family we fell in love with the place and visited frequently. After a long gap and thanks to my son’s football team we’ve been over a few times in recent years and have visited Gladbach, Fortuna, Hertha and Leverkusen.
My lad pushed his front tooth back 45 degrees playing football. After a couple of phone calls we were driven by the parent of one of his opponents to a nearby town where a dentist and her nurse opened the surgery on a Sunday morning. They fixed him up with a temporary brace and we went back to join his team mates two hours later. I was wondering how much I was in for when the credit card machine came out. 200 Euros... staggering.
Brilliant nation, brilliant people.
It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
I am not a fan of Germans, I guess I have been to Majorca to many times, but the hated for them is stomach turning. Nobody deserves that kind of abuse just for the country of birth. Vile.

I have lived in Germany for nearly 6 years having met a lady who is now my wife when town played fortuna in the friendly in 2015 , for the first maybe 9 to 10 months I was not quite sure about living here, but getting to have german friends and becoming immersed in the German WAY it is a lovely country with many qualities, all you need is patience, they are about 10 years behind in internet, mobile phones etc, customer service is nil and everything is bound up in paperwork, but lovely to here all the positive comments, some have made my frau laugh at british humour.

And then there was that fantastic German women’s tennis player who was so powerful and built like a battleship. What was her name again? Steffi Graf Spee ?
