Those who went yesterday 09:40 - Jul 12 with 1659 viewsbluelagos

Hope you enjoyed it and stayed safe and your heads aren't too bad today.

Wonder if you have any thoughts on how many fans managed to evade security and bunk in to the game yesterday?

A couple on Skynews just now (of ticket holders) describing the chaos in their area and that they couldn't get to see the match due to "fans" in their seats.

Video below is fairly clear on some of what happened around the ground.

See the other thread. It has my and another posters quick experience. In summary it was bedlam. Basically no police, very few stewards. Thousands of people without tickets creating a trail of destruction.

Ticket less fans break into Wembley by TractorCam 11 Jul 2021 18:27
You just know in the middle are people with tickets caught up in this, also a guy having a seizure on the far right, probably trampled on.

Idiots.

Cheers. Clear that some fans clearly broke in. Wondering how a big a problem it was?

From the TV pics the only areas that seemed to have empty seats (per the 75% capacity) were the club England areas (Middle tier and posh seats on the half way)

But you can't tell from the TV how big of a problem it was. 500 fans getting in or 20k fans getting in? Got no idea of the scale of the issue.

Granted a few drunken yobs tried to spoil things for others, but let's concentrate on the behaviour of 99% of fans.

What a positive tournament it has been for everyone involved, the players and fans have been a credit to the nation.

Poll: Would Lambert have acheived better results than Cook if given the same resources

No, we have to focus on the idiots, otherwise it never stops. People behaving themselves shouldn't need congratulations.

The concourse had hundreds if not thousands of people on it who didn't have tickets so couldn't get to a seat. I've never seen anything like it. There was at least 75k in the ground. It was rammed. There was absolutely no space near me. There were people sharing seats, aisles were blocked and stewards had no choice but to shrug.

I can't even call it a shambles from a stadium operations perspective as they don't run a fortress. Policing was essentially non existent given the numbers of people.

The people directly in front of me had two tickets for 5 people. They just rammed in behind each other.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I was there mate and it was thousands of people. The 99% doesn't wash. It was large scale, pre mediated disorder.

I had to queue at the turnstile as people turned around after getting rejected, hear them talk how they planned to break in and watch helpless stewards overwhelmed.

I am wondering about the failures to provide adequate security into a football stadium, rather than the behaviour of a minority of fans.

There are very serious questions around the policing / stewarding / security at the game yesterday. Your position (which I don't disagree with) doesn't address those questions around the organisation at Wembley.

FA said they will conduct a review so will see what they come up with I guess.

Had fans in my seat at a couple of England away games over the years, but never known the issue on a large scale. Was annoying at the time but last night sounds far worse tbh.

Major risks - I’m surprised more didn’t get hurt.

The powers that be completely lost control of it.

In my view save it for another day.

The powers that be will be reviewing it, and rectifying it.

Just too much negativity for me following a wonderful tournament.

I do see that quoted a lot, 99% were fine, it is only a small minority etc..

Shouldn’t really be a problem in the future then, 99 people around to stop every wrong’un.

Surely the 1% will not be a problem for long?

I was there too and wouldn't say it was an extra 15k, but would say we're definitely talking high-hundreds. I was right at the back of the North Stand and so could see the whole stadium and it was less full than I expected it to be, so not 75k by any stretch of the imagination. Totally agree it was bedlam though.

In theory it was set-up pretty well, with an initial check of the COVID stuff (albeit not in any way thorough whatsoever) and then a ticket check. Some people were making a run through the checks and largely getting away with it and obviously it's clear from the videos that others had found other ways of getting through.

Then the turnstiles seemed pretty 'robust' but there were loads of people trying their luck. I did see a group of about 30 trying to force their way in and when they had no luck in one place, legging it to have a go somewhere else. Then a bloke asked me if he could 'squeeze through' the ticket barrier with me - luckily decided not to accept his invitation because I then saw others doing it and both then got taken to one side so likely I would have been kicked out had I let him try.

From a COVID perspective it was chaos. 95% of people weren't wearing masks on the way in or on the concourses though and if this wasn't a super-spreader event, I don't know what was....

Wembley always makes me aware of how well behaved Town fans tend to be.

When I was driving home I heard on the 5live radio call in that some 8 england fans (not these that broke in, people with seats) just went up to 2 italian fans nearby and beat the cr@p out of them. He filmed it and showedf the police and they did nothing.

The only stewards around were young men or women who were not going to stop it and risk themselves (rightly so).

I don't even think it was at the end. Some people are just incredibly unhinged and yobbos.

Edit: and on the covid thing, a colleague went to the Italy Spain game and now has covid....He said they weren't even checking people had tests etc. Such a badly run and money grabbing event this. Appalling really. The correct procedures need to be in place.

Lots !

The girl in front of me at the turnstile got in with a dodgy photo of a QR code, the stewards were completely clueless about the process of activating your ticket, and they just gave up with the COVID checks as they realised they couldn't cope with the numbers, it was a shambles

Missed most of the problems, as I got into the stadium at 5pm, but walking down wembley way was awful, beer cans flying and a few skirmishes. When i arrived, I thought the whole of wembley way was queuing to get into the stadium, which wasnt the case, as it took me 20mins to get through the throngs of people, so I image thousands was there without tickets and causing general mayhem. Poor policing in my opinion, no one should have been down wembley way without a ticket or the surrounding areas of the stadium.

Inside the stadium where I was seated, in the gods, was no issues or in the concourse, just fans enjoying themselves.

Left pretty sharpish after the game, and most fans were just depressed, saw one bottle thrown at a kid taking the pee out of us losing.

Wembley (procedure, security etc) isn't fit to host international tournament games. Jibbing has also long been a problem before last nights game.
