Well said Tyrone Mings on 08:56 - Jul 13 with 1491 views | BlueNomad | There are many people who consider footballers (and fans) to be "thick". They are so wrong and this England squad have used their success and fame to consistently disprove that. We have a generation of intelligent, articulate and empathetic young men who can inspire in so many ways. Many (particularly older) people consider politicians to be bright and wise. The current generation have totally disproved that. I don't need to list (again) what this current miserable crew demonstrate on a daily basis but they are taking us further to the right, with everything associated with it, than any time in decades. One day people will vomit at the thought of what we have put in power.

The FT quoted a tory official, implied not an MP but an advisor, as saying Southgate's excellent pre-tournament article was "suspiciously well written". The same utter contempt for anything to do with football that lead to Hillsborough, ID cards but not quite enough contempt to jump on a bandwagon when the team does well.

Well said Tyrone Mings on 20:48 - Jul 12 by NthQldITFC | Imagine if you said to a bunch of people in 1950, that seventy years later there would be serious racial injustice, a worldwide pandemic, and looming environmental disasters. One group of honest, humble, hard-working people would be doing their bit with things like, say, ensuring schoolchildren were fed, whilst another group would be doing irresponsible things and looking after their own self interests. I wonder how many of those 1950s folk would realise which of those groups was the government, and which was the national football team. |
A very astute observation NthQldITFC. Well said.

Well said Tyrone Mings on 21:54 - Jul 12 by itfcjoe | This nails it - in one of Cummings mad ramblings one key point he said was why on Earth are you going to go to war with Rashford and let him humiliate you again? They are as arrogant as they are thick |
I think it is significant that it is Black footballers who are so good at this. When we see footage of harassment of Black people by the Police, usually, but not exclusively, coming from the USA, I'm always struck by how calm and polite, under intense pressure, those Black people are in their response. I know that I would not be able to be that calm and polite. An example: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-56707979 Why is that? It's because Black young men and women have had to grow up responding to authority with exceptional politeness, because the slightest hint of aggression from them is magnified in police reports (see Dalian Atkinson's trial for evidence of this). They've been taught from a young age to not give even the slightest excuse to authority figures to blame them. So, when it comes to social media campaigning Tyrone, Marcus and co have a skill set that I don't have: to think first, to consider the implications more carefully than I do, and to very clearly and concisely communicate their message. And I f***ing love them for it!

Essentially, the wider Brexit bubble on the Tory right and their media cheerleaders have been able to dominate the national narrative for five years by labelling everyone who disagreed sore losers or enemies of the people or merely experts and now they can't do that but are carrying on regardless. sorry if it's already been on this thread, but terry butcher was interviewed on 5 live this morning (8:20ish). if his words were spoken by a young person, someone from the left, someone non-white, they'd be written off as "woke" it's sad that some people will only listen to old white men, but makes it even more important that people with a platform use it. well done terry

It's really strange as I thought they were all about the right to free speech as well as the right to offend? So proud of Tyrone, what an absolute gem. And to think he was a mortgage broker not so long ago before being plucked from relative obscurity! Now in the England team and dishing it out to the Home Sec! [Post edited 13 Jul 2021 14:09]

Off-topic - but it’s interesting that the Tory Right seem to think that they can pick a fight with anyone. They try to bully the BBC and the National Trust knowing full well that those organisations won’t really fight back. But some footballers will view that they have nothing really to lose and will attack regardless of the person or position that they hold. Think Cummings warned the PM not to pick a fight with Rashford because they won’t be able to win. Weirdly, I’ve noticed a few people I know (who were critical of taking the knee labelling it as a meaningless gesture) have now altered their Facebook profile photo to include ‘standing against racism’. Not sure what makes this more of a statement than taking the knee. Anyway, apologies for going off-topic.

No, you're absolutely spot on. All their politics revolves around blaming others and being on the attack. I mean, it should be obvious to most that the National Trust is the last, sickening bastion of communism in this country so they deserved a kicking. Sadly most decent Tories, well by their standard anyway, were mainly shipped out in favour of Johnson loyalists with sh1t for brains and proper nasty streaks.

The beauty of it is that with this he's now highlighted/reminded all & sundry just how much of a coward & opportunist he is. He couldn't win either way on this one. England team 5 - 0 Johnson tories
