Could well be. My family members were in the Lidgate/Wickhambrook area in the latter half of the 18th century.

Do sometimes wonder if TWTD should have a genealogy corner, tho that would probably make it too easy to work out people's real identities.

Go claim your share of the Audi / hobnob windfall buh!

I believe Wrath of the Barclay have a genealogy corner but it’s much simpler over there.

It’s a fascinating take. For many, many people the booing of a national anthem isn’t pantomime, it’s a slight on their nation and it’s certainly an embarrassment to me when it’s effectively done on my behalf. It’s so far removed from booing a team sheet it’s untrue. People die defending their nation, the equivalence simply isn’t there.

Racists need justification and the oxygen that they’re ‘safe’ in order to come out of the woodwork. For me, disrespecting other nations and their traditions provides some of that environment. In short, actions no matter how pantomime have consequences.

I think that it's more fascinating to place an arbitrary value to the singing of a song at the start of the match over anything else that occurs before or after it.

I have absolutely no issue with Italy the place, the people, or the football team but when they are playing against England then I want them to lose. The atmosphere at football matches can have a direct impact on the outcome, and booing the anthem is just an extension of that. Grouping it with the racism, anti-social behaviour or violence that occurred on Sunday is odd.

Yes, would be interesting. I'm sure there would be plenty of posters on here who are related, this is Suffolk after all. If anyone's a Goody or Goodey from Ipswich then they may well be distantly related to me. Coincidentally enough given yesterday's news, my Crick great-grandmother was born in Cockfield.

Indeed, although there's been something quite powerful in the response to all this. Almost as if we needed things to come to a head to trigger the outpouring of support. I suspect without the finals things would have just rumbled on with the dog whistling from politicians and their client media alike. I feel now as though we may be turning a corner. Maybe I'm wrong as we'll slot back into the normal comfy of everyone shouting in their echo chambers, but this feels like we've started to break out of some of those silos and come together.

Further to this, my cousin, who has compiled a more comprehensive family tree, says our Cricks lived in Rede a generation or so back from my great-grandmother, only a matter of miles away from Lidgate, so we may well be distant cousins.

Hope so.

But when this quietens down which politicians, parties or mainstream media will really carry the torch?

It’s top of mind now for the British public but when their mind is elsewhere they’ll accept the portrayal of race and social equality campaigners as troublemakers and loons.

(Also caught my attention because my four-times-great-grandmother was a Crick from West Suffolk)

On a sidenote to that EADT article, which I've only just read, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money "to help the family relocate to Germany so Harry (a 2 yr old with a brain tumour who's already had surgery & 5 rounds of chemo) can receive vital treatment."

Knowing how generous TWTD-ers have been in the past, I imagine many would lke to contribute to that - it really is one helluva cause - so here's a link -

To donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/our-harry-our-hero

edited to insert hyperlink + update - they've already exceeded their £1K original target, but that was very low considering the financial struggles the family are facing due to Harry's condition.

Poll: Town's most cultured left foot ever?

There's some special players in this current England set up, I've often had a slightly odd feeling in the past, I'm english, I'm therefore desperate for them to win, but on the other hand the thought of some of the players being winners and me supporting them has taken the edge off, made me not care so much because actually some of them I really didn't like as people.

This group though? I truly hope they can go on and realise that major trophy, you get the feeling that a number would use that success and profile in the right way rather than just for their own gains, I'm not sure how true that might have been in the recent past.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
