A midfield and strikeforce of Evans, Harper, Burns, Crooks, Celina and Piggot would be insane for League 1 standards. Roll on August.

It should be, it really should. Undeniable upgrades on the squad of the last couple years. And yet, those last two seasons remind us it probably won’t be as easy or straightforward as we’d like it to be.

An upgrade on last season?

I thought we apparently had the best squad in league 1

Not *actually* loads of goals in or outright pace in there (yes Burns is quick). We need another winger/wider forward regardless of what happens with Celina.

With Bonne, Nolan, Dobra and Norwood on the bench.

We need another CB, LM, LB and we're there.

If they'd played up to their notional quality/pedigrees (as having been in the Champ, coming from top performing L1 and L2 sides, or being well-regarded Youths), they should have been among the best in the division. For whatever reasons (in some cases age or injury rather than disinclination), that did not happen.

However, it's undeniable that we're shopping in a higher-grade market this window.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

This all sounds so very familiar.

What’s the benchmark for promotion, 70 goals? 80? With at least half coming from your forwards. As you say it doesn’t look like bundles of goals in there to me either, yet.

If the team functions Norwood & Pigott 15+ each, Bonne 12, at least? Not a prediction but reasonable expectations.

Norwood 15 ? I'd question that personally but each to their own

Theory being -

Will he stay fit ?
Will he still be here ?
If Bonne and Piggot remain fit will he play ?

Support act at most for me in all fairness

No chance.

20 x 1-0 wins
5 x 2-1 wins
5 x 1-1 draws
10 x 0-0 draws
6 losses (in some of which we score)

40 goals, 90 points, certainly playoffs, likely automatics.

Very boring football.

Looked at seven of the last eight seasons.

lowest automatic goals for was 57 and the lowest points total was 85. The mean goals scored of the automatically promoted teams was 83, so I'd say that is the bench mark. And we should be aiming for 93 points, which was the mean.

With that said, three of the 21 teams that missed out on automatic promotion score 83 or more goals. The highest points total of those that missed out was 89. So perhaps 90 points should be the aim more so than 83 goals.

Our entire team will have to perform if we are to go up. That said, those 6 are a serious upgrade.
