Sportsman (and women) you like and dislike for no proper reason: 07:32 - Aug 2 with 2927 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

Someone who’s done nothing to deserve being liked/unliked but have managed to cause those emotions from you anyway is the objective here. A ‘proper reason’ person would be Adam Johnson for obvious reasons so he wouldn’t count for this thread. Likewise Grant Holt for being a Budgie wouldn’t count.

Might make for an interesting thread for a Monday morning.

Like :
- Jamie Vardy. Just seems a bit crackers. His windup of home fans at away games when he scores is amusing too.
- Brooks Koepka. No idea why.
- James Wade. See above.
- Kevin Pieterson. Again see above. No reason whatsoever.

Dislike:
- Lewis Hamilton. Always found him arrogant and just can’t take to him.
- Steve Redgrave. Once heard a story of how he refused to do an interview unless each question was started with ‘Sir Steve..’. Weird.

In Keno's 'used to dislike but have grown to really appreciate' category: Graeme Souness, John McEnroe

Dislike and had this slightly confirmed when I went to a talk by one of the Williams design team (they called all their crash test dummies 'Nigel'): Nigel Mansell

On a related note, I could never stand Jimmy Connors. Even as a 10-year old his on-court “humour” always seemed questionable and designed to throw his opponent off their game.

Pronouns: He/Him

Don't buy what?

Very little time for Ted Hankey (but for a good reason) - can't say too much on here as involved a friend of mines misses calling the Police. Got a lot of friends in the darts game and hes not particularly well liked. - I do feel guilty however as I was there when he had a "minor stroke" and we all though he was pissed when playing M v Gerwen.

Mark Allen in snooker - He has drawn his ex misses Reanne (who's lovely) in the first round of the British open, wonder if he will withdraw ... he has made nasty comments about other players for little reason, including a mate of mine,

Someone on here said they liked Bullard, I think he mugged us off, he turned up to my mates pub for something or other but I kept away!!

I can cope with Chris Sutton, he helped my cousin out with Charity work whilst and after he was at Celtic, so he gets some leeway!

Connors was a tvvat and there was no love lost between McEnroe and him, unlike Borg , with who McEnroe remains best of friends.

For some reason I always liked Yvonne Goolygong when I first started to take an interest in Tennis.

How can I form a positive or negative opinion on someone I have never spoken to or spent any time with?

How can you not on some level, even if unintentional if you see and hear enough of them in the media?

It becomes very difficult not to have an opinion of somebody, even if you'd rather not, once they reach a certain level of exposure.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Like:
Seb Vettel- Even though he's always been one of Lewis' on track rivals, has a really bubbly personality.
Larry Fitzgerald- No one dislikes him
Aaron Rodgers- Effortlessly cool
Tom Brady- Almost inhumanly intense which ends up being quite entertaining
Jordan Spieth- Watching him always talk to the ball while its in the air just reminds me of myself on the course.
Youri Tielemans- Have actively followed his career progress purely for the reason that I signed him as a 17 year old on Fifa 15

Dislike:
Djokovic- Does anybody actually like him?
Lando Norris- Can't quite put my finger on it but his personality always comes across as a bit of a facade to me, good racer though.
Not a sportsman but Christian Horner (even before the last couple of weeks) has always come across as attention seeking and camera loving.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

Possible because I am old and cynical and can guess at how the inner workings of the media operate.

I see Roy Keane for example and I bet there is not much between he and Chambers in being someone to sit and have a laugh and a beer with, yet most here would dismiss the ideal that Roy could be 'fun' because they assume all they see and hear is true and not some stylised persona fabricated to provide a career.

Roy is certainly not fun

As someone who is encouraging peace and love on this forum I shouldn’t have anything to do with this thread - but, if pushed, I have put together a short list of sportsmen I dislike.

Connors was a very singular man, but I guess that helped make him so successful. He didn't get on with Andre Agassi & I love the story of how Agassi was returning to the locker room after his last ever game in the US Open. Everyone in the locker room stood up & applauded, apart from Jimmy Connors. Agassi said he rather respected Connors for that!

Swap Verstappen with Hamilton and I think I almost agree with the rest of this Warky.

Djokovic in particular should have made mine. He’s a complete knobhead.

I was at Edgar St many years ago watching Man U XI play a pre-season against Hereford Utd

Dennis Irwin was playing and in the second half he was slowly walking along the wing, making his way back after a free kick...he had a bit of a miserable expression on him pretty much all the time

Random Bulls fan I was standing next called out "Cheer Up Dennis, we have to come here every week"

Dennis Wise laughed....and I always respected him for that
