One more signing needed 18:58 - Aug 15 with 5389 viewshunty21

Do we all agree that just one more signing is needed before our squad is complete (centre mid) , imo i hope it is cos we need a close knit squad that can gel .

Based on what I watched on Saturday we need a CM as cover (Evans and Harper look our best players) and we also need a RB. If Burns is seen as a replacement for KVY then we need a winger instead. Fraser cannot play wide right based on Saturday and i would assume Burns would play there normally, so if he's moved backwards theres a big gap down the right.

Burns would be that backup given the attacking depth we have?

I've not seen anything of him defensively, thought he had played more at wingback than right back? I suppose Burns and Donacien between them is reasonable cover but I am more concerned about KVY than I was before the season started.

Definitely need a CM.

Not many will agree with this but one more CB? I know it's unlikely.

Who would be up for taking a fee for Woolf and replacing him with a really decent first choice defender to get us up? Just throwing it out there...

I'd be quite happy not taking a fee. Just let him go and get someone better in.

Any more than one and we'll have to start moving people on first, I think?

We’ve got Nolan and El Miz who can cover at CM so il think we will see one new CM come in

Completely forgot about Nolan. Have to wonder if he’s going to have any involvement in this season what so ever. Definitely not until after Christmas I would imagine.

He played wingback at our place and both Edwards and Bennett’s had the beating of him that day.

I can't find any evidence of him playing against us at PR. When was that match? It is unusual for a loanee to play against the parent club.

Sorry, yes, was in a muddle with Donacien. That makes more sense.

Certainly didn't think they had the beating of him. He had the beating of our LB and scored a very tidy goal.

Highlights are here so will watch now. https://www.skysports.com/football/ipswich-town-vs-fleetwood-town/431354

If it is the case, the highlights don't bear it out.

First goal came down Fleetwood left - nothing to do with Burns.

Second is a quick break down the Fleetwood right while Burns is upfield on an attack.

Third is through the middle.

Burns scores the goal with his pace breaking from right back. Then has another chance having broken from the right side.

Certainly don't recall him being beaten repeatedly.

You need more than highlights. 1st goal starts from Edwards cross, Burns didn’t get close enough to him. 2nd goal he lets Edwards run in behind him. 3rd goal comes from poor control from Burns gifting the ball to kenlock.

Did well going forward though.

1st goal is a Dobra dribble and cross from the right that Norwood taps in from the centre of the six yard box. Are you expecting right back Burns to be covering in the left back slot or marking the striker on the edge of the six yard box. Either way you are expecting far too much of right back Burns.

2nd goal Burns is white skinned. He is not the player that Edwards is running in behind. I see why you think Burns was easily beaten when you mistake him for a taller, dark skinned player. Burns was up field on the attack when Ipswich broke quickly. Interestingly Burns does get back to Edwards as he scores despite starting from the other half of the pitch.

3rd goal Burns' man plays a quick lay-off inside the Ipswich half before the ball is played long over his head. He never had the ball to mis-control it.

Little wonder you thought he was poor with those observations. As I said, it is possible that he was skinned all the rest of the match not on the highlights but that is not they way I remembered it. Your observations from what is there on the highlights make me have no confidence in your memory of it either.

I’m sure it’s an unpopular opinion but I would take a fee for Woolfenden.

Downes and Dozzell will spend their careers at a much higher level than he will. We’ve taken fees for them and moved them on. I can see why Champ clubs wanted them.

For me, Woolf is a bang average League One defender and isn’t going to be anything more, one of our own or not.

Asa - In my humble opinion I think Woolfenden is a very good league one defender. Think he needs a coach to bring the best out of him. Somebody teach him how to read the game better and wok on positioning and tactical awareness.

Like I said you need more than the highlights. Have a look at the extended highlights on ifolllow and you’ll see what I’m saying EG the 1st goal starts with a deep cross from Edwards which Dobs picks up. Burns didn’t do enough to get close to Edwards.

OK, just checked. Burns is close to Edwards and forces him into rushing an overhit cross. Decent defending. If you are expecting an attacking right back to prevent his winger from putting in any cross at all for 90 minutes you are expecting a lot. You are still wrong on the second goal and mistake Burns for a tall black player.

On the extended highlights you can't see what the ball played to Burns was like, He has failed to control it so that Kenlock has collected it in the Ipswich left back position, yes. It really depends what the ball played to him was like but I certainly didn't think his control was poor generally over the course of the game as I watched it.

I can see you have your mind made up but I don't agree from what you have pointed towards so far.

Of course you can’t stop all crosses but the ball was in the air along time before Edwards got it so he could have got closer and cut it out. Did you notice Burns body language when we score. My guess is he’s thinking he should have done better,.

2nd goal. I’m not mistaking Burns at all. Edwards is Burns man. He lets Edwards run in behind him. Centre half (who you’re talking about) comes over to cover and gets beaten.

You don’t agree, that’s fine.

and aggression, energy and heading...other than those few minor points he is fine...
Yes I'm being sarcastic, but I just really don't see that Wolfy has developed how we/he hoped he would. He doesn't seem aggressive enough or show great awareness or energy. He tends to back off too much and doesn't ever seem to dominate any of the opposition which you'd want a good CB to do.
For me he seems like a player who was once a very good prospect but hasn't kicked on and just seems to lack certain key attributes whichever position he plays (CB or RB).
I have sometimes wondered whether he might be better suited to a DM type role if he could develop his passing more.
