Stats dump - some very interesting things in here 10:28 - Sep 27 with 3521 viewsitfcjoe

https://dataviz.theanalyst.com/season-reviews/2021/?competition_id=11&season

Defensively
In open play we are the meanest defence in the league - only 4.4 xG conceded this season. Means we have come up against some good finishing and bad goalkeeping, from set pieces we are 18th in the league - 2.9 xG against

Attack
Open Play - 13th best attack in the league
Set pieces - 19th best attack in the league

For all the promising attacking football we seem to see, we really do not create anything like enough good chances - final ball lacking?

Set pieces have to improve at both ends as well

Piggott was meant to be our main goal threat to this season I believe.

And well could be if he were played. Good though Bonne is he does not dominate in the air. I'd like to see them both on the pitch at the same time and forging a partnership.

I'm not sure 'clinical' is the right word. Although he has looked a very good singing for us, look at the chances he's missed and very good chances at that. You could argue he should have a about 10 goals by now.

Similar to Norwood, gets lots of chances but does tend to miss some you'd expect him to score. As he said in his interview on Sat, he can't score every week.

It's not unreasonable to say he's not clinical, based on the great chances he's missed.

Think we can all agree he's been a great signing on the evidence so far.

"Expect to score" is the thing. Exceptionally good finishers score from 25% of their shots. Bonne's scored 5 times from 14 shots this season, which is 36%.

He's very much our main source of threat. Set up the equaliser at the weekend and our best other chance came through him getting in one on one. Hard to remember many other players having much in the way of chances, it's mainly been Bonne.

Burns gets a few. Was disappointed he didn't shoot when put through by Celina on Saturday, very similar to the one he had at Lincoln which he put comfortably over.

I'm confident when we start getting Fraser into good positions more, like he did against Morecambe, he'll get amongst the goals.

Really? I'd say that he's being about as clinical as you're going to get for this level. He could have had more but I don't expect a striker at this level to be putting away every single chance they get.

Look at Saturday's chances, the 1 on 1 especially he seemed to be in 2 or 3 minds before hitting it against the keeper and he had a couple more decent chances after that too and lets not forget the miss at Cheltenham - there's no excuse for that one whatever level of football you are playing in. No I agree, he's been a very good signing for us and you can't expect him to score every game, but he's missed a few golden opportunities to get even more goals than he already has and there's no denying that.

To balance that out he's also scored some difficult chances that you wouldn't necessarily expect him to. The stats show that he's taking a good proportion of his chances, that he's not converting all of them doesn't make him a not very good finisher. All forwards miss chances you'd expect them to take and score some you wouldn't expect, it's the nature of the beast.

That's very fair Herbivore, but if you're defining him as a 'clinical' striker you aren't going to miss chances like the ones on Saturday and against Cheltenham and those were game changers too. However, I do agree Bonne has shown he's a very decent finisher and hopefully he'll get a few more tomorrow night.

Some interesting observations, although the biggest thing is goals for and against and points.

Looks like we struggle to defend set pieces and we take a high percentage of our chances (despite our attackers being criticised for missing a couple - perhaps it is that we create very good chances). Perhaps we are also not used to seeing the team create chances and find the idea that they often do not end up in the net is news to us.

I understand what you're saying but all strikers will occasionally miss very good chances. He's also scored some chances I absolutely wouldn't expect him to score. Overall, I think he's done very well with the chances he's been presented.

If you take stock in xG, then he's doing incredibly well.

Loads of people were saying before the season began Bonne might play wide or would struggle to get in and I posted how amazed I was at this attitude. Chico; right again. This must be how Blubbers feels all the time.

Feel in the main we’re singing from the same hymn sheet here Dan. However, I’m sure if you asked him he’d admit he could’ve scored a few more than he’s got so far regardless of the stats. I certainly feel he’s our best signing this summer, so far. Just hope he keeps on scoring for us.
