Possibly AI machine-learning bot testing?...do a Google search for "bulb", check which ones are forums, create a reply, construct a plausible sentence based on context, and post...

Looks like Bulb energy is about to collapse on 12:54 - Oct 29 by StokieBlue | That's my supplier. To be honest with 1.7m customers they are big enough to have hedged this properly. Looks like negligence to me. SB |
Even being hedged isn’t necessarily a saviour. A friend ran a small energy company and when all these failures hit the news I asked how they were doing. They though they were safe as they had hedged sufficiently for the last winter and the next. A few weeks later I saw on The BBC website they had gone under. Turns out the company they had their hedged supply agreements with had been put into administration. The administrator’s of the company refused to honour the agreement so they in turn were forced under.

That's what I thought but it's a seven month old thread that has been oddly resurrected.

Stokie's still on his leave of absence. Went for a few beers with him last night though and he's in fine fettle.

On the one hand I don’t like seeing anyone feel like they can’t post anymore. On the other hand it’s often for the best; if someone feels like that they’re right.

But what about creating accounts? How does that work? Potentially stupid question but no point in my pretending to understand these things. [Post edited 10 May 2022 14:08]

Could also be testing the sites' Turing Tests? No slight on Gav, but TWTD's Turing Test wouldn't be the hardest to crack for a bot, I mean he even explains how it works! ;-) Though I can't see why anyone would want to use TWTD for spamming or data mining!

Russians obviously. They know following the apocalypse it's TWTD the country will turn to in its hour of need. Someone's got to run the show.

Looks like Bulb energy is about to collapse on 12:30 - Oct 29 by Illinoisblue | Guessing Eastern Electricity is no longer an option? |
Alas, one of the early victims of corporate overstretching in privatised electricity industry. Borrowed heavily to go on a spending spree buying up european utilities, until the credit ratings agencies got concerned about their ability to repay the debts, cut their credit status to junk, triggering the debt payments which they couldn't make and Bob Sherunkle, what was a viable business went to the wall. Strictly speaking the rump of it was bought by E.ON, so if you are with them you could pretend that you are still with Eastern.

It could be some AI testing thing, but the usernames seem strangely handpicked. Usually for bots, they just go with names or something that is easily generated but there's no pattern to them. Equally interesting are the range of topics they post on. They also do a decent job of signing up to forums that are not based on off the shelf forums like this one. The only thing I can think of is that they do this with a view to selling the bots to shill something eventually, and then if people question it they look more like real people at a glance.
