Yes, last 10 looks better. Really frustrating how poorly we did in those first 6 games, if we'd held on for a couple of wins we'd be top 6 now and looking to push on for top 2. Let's hope we maintain the form from the last 10 games over the rest of the season. 60 more points won't be enough for the autos but it should see us fairly comfortably in the top 6.

First 5 games with a new squad was always gonna be very difficult. If you see us as being a third of the way through season. I don't expect us to do so badly in the first 5 games of the last 2 thirds if that makes sense?

That does make sense. Remember though that in our first 5 games we had some pretty kind fixtures, Morecambe at home as an opener in particular as they'd made as many signings as us over the summer. Even taking account of bedding in new players, we ought to have done better over those fixtures. We can't afford another 6 game spell like the opening 6 as we can see now how much that's hamstrung us but I'd like to think we won't repeat that now. [Post edited 3 Nov 2021 13:08]

I think we are still only in 3rd gear at the moment. (perhaps in 4th in patches last night) By the time we get to the last third of the season I don't think any team in this league will wanna play us and it won't matter to much who we are playing (hopefully anyway)

I've known Cook for a long while and have followed his career since Sligo Rovers days. When his teams are on fire they are unstoppable and excellent to watch. Wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the season what we saw last night won't become our expectation for every match. (We will be let down some weeks....)

Just googled the average points needed for second place in league 1 which is 86.7 points. We need to average 2.13 points a game over the next 30 to get to 87 points. Not impossible, but certainly a tough ask.

I'm not really great at maths, but the way I like to look at it is there's 90 points up for grabs still. Looks a lot better when you look at it like that!

Definitely a tough ask, over a full season that would get you 98 points, AKA HMS Pisstheleague form. This squad should be good enough that it's not completely impossible but it seems unlikely. And I wouldn't be too surprised if 87 points isn't quite enough this year as there's a few sides who look strong.

Shame, my £20 at 9/1 for us to finish top is looking like I might take the £5.67 cash out now offered

could be wrong, but i'd expect teams to slip away from their current average as the season wears on. sunderland were looking super strong 3 games ago (2.33 ppg), now down to 1.87! there's no pushovers in this league, so the top teams will drop points

I wouldn't say there's no pushovers, there's definitely some weak sides in this league. I'm sure sides will drop off a little but I still reckon 87 points will be tight for second place and wouldn't be surprised if the top 2 were both over 90 this year. Rotherham are looking really strong and Wigan are finding ways to win even when games are going against them, as was the case last night. Sunderland are having a dip, which is classic Sunderland, but they looked strong previously. Autos should still be the aim but I think we've given ourselves too much to do.

Agree. When teams get a few injuries etc. Plymouth for example run on a very small squad. 1 or 2 injuries could very easily derail their season. Top 2 probably gone but top 6 well within reach.

Usually, 2 points/game will get you automatic promotion. To get their, Town will need to average 2.33 points/game from here. Exceptional form & unlikely, although obviously not impossible.

As things stand on ppg the top 4 will all finish above 89 points - that simply won't happen Our challenge is to et somewhere around the mid to high 80s and hope it's enough - at that point it is a coin flip whether you go up automatically or not. It means we need more than 2 points per game so is a huge ask - and requires something like 20 wins, 5 draws and 5 defeats over the rest of the season

there are some weak teams, but even the bottom 2 have taken points off rotherham, plymouth, mk & pompey wigan have racked up the points, but lost 3 of their last 4 home games, so far from infallible. top 2 is unlikely, but wouldn't write it off just yet

Yeah, agreed. I think it's very unlikely as it would require insane form over a 30 game period but it's not necessarily totally beyond us. We'll need to improve further from where we're at currently though, and can't afford so many blips.
