Sam Morsy 08:02 - Dec 8 with 5998 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | Not sure if there is a thread already, apologies if so. The alarm bells were there when he said he didn't want to leave Middlesbrough upon joining here. The alarm bells were there when he said he joined because of the manager, not the club itself. His performance last night was absolutely disgraceful, and as captain of our football club, that was beyond unacceptable. He didn't look interested, he lacked effort, he didn't give his CB's an option to take the ball off them, didn't make a tackle, didn't lead as a captain, didn't give a s***. He doesn't deserve to play again for this club based on his attitude and application last night. Fair enough, there's 8 or 9 others who I could mention too, but he's the captain and will be drawn out.

Sam Morsy on 08:11 - Dec 8 by itfcserbia | Yes, you could mention many others and you rightly should. Celina for example have multiple times this season shown how uninterested he is culminating with that disgraceful penalty (both before and after miss). It was my fear from the summer that these "higher-league" players won't be motivated to give all in League 1. Not saying that is in any way acceptable but could have been somewhat expected. Imagine Celina who played last season against PSG, Monaco, Marseille and now goes to Cheltenham and Morecambe. I don't mean any disrespect to these places but he and others clearly demonstrate it. Morsy included. Just look at his comments after Accrington he basically called them an awful non-league club. Disgraceful. |
Of all the problems at the club... you pick on Celina!?

He's been poor all season but last night was a new low. Definitely go with El Miz on Saturday, he simply can't be worse than what we saw last night

To be fair his performance last night was so anonymous he may as well have not been on the pitch! Don't do it, I will whoosh you!

Sam Morsy on 08:37 - Dec 8 by itfcserbia | Stats for lost balls such as unsuccessful dribbles and misplaced passes? He's top 3 in the league in those. Too bad there's no stat for not tracking back or disappearing in games. He gives you a wonder goal here and there and that's all. |
To be fair to Celina, I did see him track back into our penalty area and win the ball in one recent home league game, Crewe I think. I didn't expect to see that and neither did the opposition.
Sam Morsy on 19:50 - Dec 8 with 1108 views | MalcolmBlue | He can be as moody as he likes about Cook getting the boot but the sad fact is if he tried harder on a more consistent basis maybe his mate wouldn’t have been sacked. He can mope all he likes but it’s not going to change a thing. If he doesn’t buck up his ideas, I’d bin him off. Disgusting amount of money for zero effort.

Sorry but that is crap re him tracking back. He was off it a bit earlier on, but in recent games he has worked seriously hard and his defensive game has been much better. Celina misplaces some simple passes that he shouldn't sometimes which is frustrating but he also tries passes that have low percentage because if they come off they basically make a chance/goal. Against Oxford was such example, he tried about 3 or 4 through balls which didn't come off, but at least he was trying, not like anyone else created anything. Think you are really taking out your angst on the wrong player here. I think Celina's application has been just fine as way better than many and he's scored some fantastic goals and won us points this season.

Thought Evans was the poorest player on the pitch last night. Don't think he contributed one single thing, was utterly woeful.

Sam Morsy on 08:32 - Dec 8 by StokieBlue | The Celina scapegoating is starting to p*as me off. He's been one of our best players this season since getting back towards full fitness and the stats back that up. Given no preseason and covid complications he's only just getting there and getting better most matches. I don't care about a penalty in the pizza cup even if it was rubbish. He's delivering in the league now. SB [Post edited 8 Dec 2021 8:34]

That's a fair view. And if you read my whole post I took out my angst on all the players and was much more harsh on Morsy than Celina but some simple minds connected him and my flag and thought they had a brain wave so discussion kind of got derailed. I still can't get over that penalty miss and his body language though. He just looked he didn't care one bit.

About the penalty, that style of penalty relies on showing huge confidence offputting the keeper into diving before he strikes it. He needs to look confident and as though he can’t miss and it’s going to look like he’s too relaxed. That’s somewhat the point. Not to say I agree with that style of penalty but I still don’t think you can take anything from the body language being so calm. It doesn’t suggest that he doesn’t care.

It's not about the style, I have no problem of taking that kind of shot. But after the miss he just looked like couldn't be bothered. For example Piggot hit the post and his face and body language were genuinely bothered. Just saying. [Post edited 8 Dec 2021 21:23]

Well Piggot needs a goal of any kind so not surprised he was gutted Celina is probably wondering why he is playing Pizza cup games considering he should be playing every league and is fit now. Maybe he wasn't that bothered, I wouldn't blame him. I wasn't bothered about the competition, but i got very bothered by the performances based on the line ups put out. It showed Cook had real issues as he couldn't get the team to perform in so many games against weak opposition with strong line ups.

Sam Morsy on 18:27 - Dec 8 by DavoIPB | Yep. Doesn't want to be here. Think Evans is trying his hardest he just isn't of high enough standard. In fact the only decent players we have are Walton (championship quality easily). Edmunson is probably lower championship. Aluko is a cut above, Burns a good league 1 player and Celina is a different class as well. That's it. 5 players who are good enough to play for us out of 19 recruits. Donacian would probably get a look in as well if he has Burns or Aluko ahead of him. |
Agree. As much as all these signings were hyped up, they are nearly all solid League One players, not Championship standard.

Nonsense again. Celina has been playing well. Let's see some evidence to back up your assertion that he doesn't want to be here and thus by extension isn't trying. SB

I do get frustrated by him waving his hand about to demand the ball only to return it whence it came via a three yard pass.

Sam Morsy on 11:28 - Dec 9 with 629 views | DJR | Leaving aside that they only ever seem to play the ball backwards or sideways, the impression I got about Morsy and Evans at Charlton is that they are just not fit enough. That was something Cook said about last season's players, so why hasn't this issue been sorted out? The other problem is that Cook seemed to base his whole project on two players who had been good a few years ago, but may not be so good now.
