How is Harris attractive to them, though? His style of football doesn’t suit the squad and he had a bad time, in the end, at Cardiff. Who else is on the shortlist for him to be considered the best option?

He did a brilliant job at Millwall, establishing them as a Champ club on small budget, then went into Cardiff and got them into POs from pretty poor position.

Then went wrong there in second season like it does for every manager it seems, including Saint Mick!

He’s certainly not someone I’d be going for, or excited by, but think he’d be a good fit for a promotion attempt this year and squad has a strong spine and good enough options to make a percentage game work

I actually don't think Harris is that bad a shout. Think he's got a solid record.

Think issue is that fans had expected a Lampard to drop down, a bigger name. Didn't ever think there was a chance of that happening.

Certainly agree re Lampard, why would he come here? Was never realistic

Either way, for me, we have to get someone in early this week.

Can't just let the situation fester on and on. Need someone in to access squad and potentially make a couple of tweaks if needed in January.

There was never a chance of Lampard happening, but given how ambitious the owners were last time with the signings we made, you could never say never. I suspect if we was in the Championship, we’d have stood a better chance.

Think Harris would be a poor appointment personally. His agent is playing a blinder at the moment though, I have to admit. Given some of the relatively poor names linked with the job at the minute, Ashton and co have done a decent job in nothing get our.

Interesting and big week ahead for them though.

Doesn't appear to be anyone else being linked currently. Having said that, it was like this most of the summer and then someone would sign. I hope that's the case here. Harris isn't my first choice that's for sure.

Let's hope it's sorted soon!

I guess I’m trying to go through the options in my head. If we’re attractive then wouldn’t Robinson be interested in us over Oxford? If not, guess it could be over loyalty; if so could be the board prefer someone with a promotion behind them. Maybe they’re not willing to risk a Manning or a Barry as they’d be green options. Mowbray or Lampard won’t come here at the moment. Jack Ross? Has to be a possibility but Harris has a better track record at this level, not that that’s held us in good stead before.

Who are the managers who have applied from a higher level? Pearson? Warnock, arguably but he’d be a short term solution.

The worry with Harris is he gets into runs he struggles to get out of. With Millwall he picked up four points out of 21 before resigning; with Cardiff he lost six from seven before being sacked. In 17/18 he finished 8th in the Championship; the following season it was 21st.

Perhaps I’m expected too much from any new appointment but there are a few alarm bells ringing there for me.

Agree about Harris.

His record is fine. It’s the style that bothers me, but he’s appointed then so be it I’ll be fully behind him.

3 po campaigns, a win ratio over 40%. It’s fairly decent.

He had a sticky end at Cardiff but what managers haven’t that have had a few jobs. We re not going to find a manager that hasn’t had a bit of adversity at some stage.

He had a sticky time at Millwall as well - fell from 8th in the first season in the Championship to 21st in the second before resigning after picking up something like four points from 21 in the third.

Phil is it Harris' to lose at the moment or do you think someone will end up being appointed who hasn't yet been picked up by the media?

I don't think it's his to lose. Just that his name is out there, there will be plenty of others that are being spoken to.

Not sure if you would have published them if so, but do you know of anyone who has applied/been interviewed who hasn’t been named yet? Not asking for you to say who if so!

Intriguing, thanks.

Part of me would love a completely left field appointment that isn’t mentioned until they’re over the line. Though all the worrying and looking at their record would happen after they take on the role.

I’m quite surprised at this. Whilst he did some bad things 15-20 years ago I’d say he’s matured. Seems to be very serious about his coaching and the players would be instantly impressed by a guy who was England captain when they were kids. Surprised we’re writing him off.

With Derby finances I’ve started to wonder about Rooney.

Good, he would be a shocking appointment.

But even Harris would be underwhelming. I am sure he is a good bloke but he is Millwall through and through.

If they have not got anyone decent lined up then go for a itfc blooded coach at least.

I still think warnock till the end of the season is a good shout, it just feels like the time is right and the stars are aligning for the final chapter to be written

Doing that limits your option unless someone desperate for it though

It may boil down to who is best positioned to get us up this year, and Harris not a bad shout in that regard, with attempt to have a break clause in deal if he doesn’t

Well let’s face it, if we don’t go up fans will be on the back of the manager anyway

The same insiders that broke Lamberts arrival, Cooks arrival, the club’s buyout… yes they have been massively wrong of late haven’t they…

It’s going to be Harris and we’re going to finish 11th. It’s such an Ipswich thing to do. I agree that Cook should have gone but only if an upgrade was available, not just anyone. We could have finished mid table with Cook anyway.

I think Harris would be a positive appointment too, maybe not the Hollywood appointment many want - but he's nowhere near a poor choice.

Lots of names being thrown around but why not go with names associated with our beloved Club. Give John McGreal the job until the end of the season with Dyer as his assistant. This option appeals to me far more than Harris and the likes of Warnock, Pulis and co.
Who ever is appointed it needs to be done quickly as this season will slip away from us before we know it.
