....with the benefit of a few games to judge, Bakinson is dreadful. I'm so sorry, but he is. Its really tough to disappear in a game playing centre midfield but he gives it a bloody good go! So lucky that Morsy compensated for him otherwise we would've been in trouble

Played so well today, just lacked a little bit of quality with the final ball. We all deserved a win, fans & players

I was....and not just judging on this game but for me he's sloppy in possession and is absolutely no better than what we already have

Having said that, the way people are jumping all over me suggests I'm seeing something others aren't. He could've cost us 2 goals today giving easy possessio away

Anyway, I'll belt up and keep my opinions to myself in future

He can be sloppy in possession but I'd argue that it's others that are seeing things you aren't. Positionally i think he's good - he's versatile in the roles he can play and he seems to adapt quickly to different intructions. He does a lot of things reasonably well. Could be a good all-rounder in the future. And the key thing for me is, even though he's been giving the ball away a lot, he still goes and asks for it. The one thing i'd like to see him do is not shirk challenges. Does my head in. But modern football isn't all about kicking lumps out of your opposing number, even in central midfield

I think he's doing fine, with a lot more to come.. Imo, a definite up grade on our other back up MF players... He has good link up play, adds height and physicality to our team, gets up and down the pitch well, good engine and scored the winner the other night against Donny... He's had a different midfield partner in at least 3 of his games, which isn't ideal when you are trying to settle into a playing pattern... Lots of encouraging signs for me.. He'll grow in confidence and play even better, as the games rack up....

I saw his first appearance and you could have put some Benny Hill music in the background and make a montage.

However, he has improved since and is starting to grow into the role, also he has played with El Miz, Carroll, Evans and Morsy, so really need to see him settled alongside Morsy in the long run to give a fair critique.

Fair point, hopefully, he settles in and creates the impact we all want to see. I like that he's an attack-minded midfielder and also as someone else mentioned he does add much-needed height to the team

I thought he did OK. Would expect Evans to come in for him.

I did feel he pulled out of a few 50/50’s though. He’s not an enforcer type and not a real replacement for Morsy. I think the BC fans called him languid and can see that in him. Extra height is a plus.

Yep, definitely shirked a couple of challenges and also lost the ball once in the first half which provided them with a 3v2 situation, but other than that I thought he was decent enough. Got something about him, for sure.

Don’t see that all, thought he looked pretty good today.

I can see an improvement. Saturdays game was his best IMO to date. However if anyone tends to lose the ball in the middle, it is him. But he’s got to adapt to league one football…as has Thompson. Hopefully we’ll see thet of him as the season goes on. Wouldn’t be surprised if we tried to sign both of them in the summer…..

He wasn't dreadful against MK Dons, it was his best game after a slowish start

I don't hate him or think he is terrible, but he does annoy me.
He could do so much more IMO
With his height and size, he should win more 50 / 50's seems to want to nick the ball off players rather than tackle them.

He could turn out to be a really good player or end up like JET and just waste his talent.

Can't say I agree with you mate. Most of our team have played a lot of games together this season and know each others runs and moves. Bakinson has had to learn in real time and I thought today was his best game.

Bakinson has started 4 games for us so far - one alongside Carroll, one alongside El Miz, one alongside Evans and now one alongide Morsy

So he's having to learn in real time whilst also having a different partner in each game he has played

There's a couple of threads on here questioning Bakinson and Thompson. I think people are forgetting how hard it is to be dropped into a new team with new colleagues and suddenly expected to be up to speed. Neither of these guys were playing week in week out and now suddenly they're playing every game in a new environment. Bakinson went down with cramp at Sheff Wed for example. Getting to know teammates, a new manager and regaining match sharpness all take a little time.

Our fans are odd. If he went to school in Ipswich and walked like he was carrying 2 rolls of carpet people would be bigging him up. The lad's 23, he's come in to a new club, settled in a new area, a club with big expectations, some big crowds and big games and he's done well. If he was immune to mistakes he wouldn't be playing for us, he certainly doesn't deserve to be singled out for criticism.

Bit weird to single out Bakinson, given he was involved in pretty much every significant chance we generated on Saturday.

First time through ball for Celina's shot.
Pass between the lines for Celina to set up Jackson.
Well weighted pass into Burns' stride for a shot.
Even Chaplin's late shot comes from him picking up a second ball and booting the ball over their back line.

2 key passes in a game is good going in itself.

I've no idea why people are so keen to dig out Bakinson (and Thompson actually). We're winning games, they're contributing to clean sheets and they're creating chances. Bakinson even scored the winner in a game last week! Give them a break ffs.

Football fans gonna fan innit.

Bakinson pulled out of a tackle (unacceptable), and lost possession in a bad area (meh)... apart from that played well, and is performance was much like the last few games. He looks good, and no worse than any other player. Agree it's bizarre, but fans have prejudices (not racial ffs, another convo) and see the bad over the good. I do it all the time.

Thompson is improving in the team and improves the team; Bakinson is a quality player and just needs to play more cautiously at times in defence. Good additions innit.

I dunno, sometimes I feel every conversation about race and player perception on here is had at complete cross purposes.

We know that race plays a big role in how people perceive others in wider society, that people do this without always being aware of it, that it contributes to discrimination in all sorts of fields. We also know that this sometimes happens even where slurs aren't being used and sometimes without active hostility. Yet every conversation about it is greeted as if it's a great outrage to notice and point out these patterns when they occur. No one wants to reflect on their own thought processes or the (often inadvertent!) connections their brain makes.

Meanwhile, we have musings on Tyreece Simpson's spending habits (or comparisons to Lukaku when he was banging them in at Swindon), Harper as "JET mark II" (not the first time a black player has had that comparison), the rush to decide Bakinson is "lazy" and "disinterested", the whole Nsiala song debacle (and some often OTT criticism of his performances) etc. I'm sure most individual instances are perfectly innocent, but I'm not sure how you have a conversation about it that doesn't revolve around individual instances?

I agree, but in this instance I think it's reasonable to point out fans can be prejudiced against players regardless of their race. I do it a lot. I also know very little about football and am often off my titties when I'm watching, so whatever :)

One of my regular PR troop thought Knudsen was rubbish. He even thought Kenlock was much better. Every wayward hoof by Jonas was commented on, even ones where he was effectively clearing the ball.

Just one example innit.
