McKenna & the Summer 18:48 - Mar 19 with 1592 viewscressi

Personally need minimum off two
Strikers as a goalscorer Unpopular opinion but Norwood only striker on book got a reasonable goal to games ratio at all clubs , but he has other issues not all on the pitch plus will be 32 and a fair amount of injuries, piggott has been a disaster if honest , Jackson has come to life but it's took 2 yrs. And Bonne a great start but gone of the boil although it may mean you could buy on the cheap

He's leaving in the summer for a Championship team apparently!

Norwood hasn’t scored since January 8th and has missed some absolute sitters when he came on fairly recently. For what he’s supposedly earning we could fund much better players in my opinion.

Two strikers of real pedigree and who suit the system but offer something different to each other + new contract for Jackson
Cover for Morsy if El Mizouni isn’t going to be adequate
LWB
Retain Celina either loan or permanently

A lot to ask for but I think we’ll be well backed again in the summer

3 good games and u would give Jackson a contract really possibly a squad player, Someone mentioned Norwood not scored since 6th of January how many minutes has he played yes he has missed chances why they are playing in league one

Jackson gives us an option and, when used correctly, can do damage at league one level. I’m not saying he’d start every week but a good option from the bench and can play in other positions across the front three. I think McKenna’s already said that he’s like to continue working with him next season. Can’t see Norwood being here next season.

Norwood is one of those strikers who misses a decent number of chances, but his goal record speaks for itself.
If he was more clinical, he probably wouldn’t be playing at this level.

Striker is the only position we didn't recruit someone proven in the championship last summer. We're all saying "what do you expect, they're league 1 players?" Suspect the owners will back mckenna to go and get a championship player in the summer.

I’m not overly sure on the type of striker McKenna would target, we need more than a poacher and probably more than just a target man to pump the ball up to.

We need someone who can find positions to receive the ball up top, hold off defenders, twist and turn and play the 10s and wing backs in, and then get in the box to finish off! Pablo Counago for the first bit, with a bit of Marcus Stewart thrown in. Easy.

I think it'll be very difficult to get a proven striker in considering Pigott was top scorer last season and look at him this time round. Would any of us guess Ross Stewart of Sunderland would be leading the way last summer, or joint second would be a certain Will Keane, who was deamed surplus to requirements here and didn't really look like scoring that many, plus Alfie May and Cole Stockton playing for newly promoted sides?

It almost feels like we need to luck out and we haven't had much in way of luck in recent years/decades.

I was thinking peak Didier Drogba there for a few seconds!

I don't think he'll be looking for a traditional number 9 so goals scored won't be the main thing he's after. Assists might be important, sprints to judge pressing, ball retention etc.

Who knows? If we narrowly miss out on a PO place, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see other clubs sniffing around. Whether we and he would they be interested is another matter entirely. We’re probably ok for another year, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.

I think in very broad priorities of incomings/outgoings it looks like this:

IN
Celina
Bakinson
LWB
Striker
Striker
Central Midfielder

OUT
Holy
Norwood
Kenlock
Carroll
Pigott

EXTEND
Jackson
Aluko

Would give us a squad of

GK:
Walton
Hdlaky

CB:
Donacien
Woolfenden
Edmundson
Burgess
Ndaba
Baggott

RWB:
Burns
KVY

LWB:
New LWB
Penney

CM:
Morsy
Evans
Bakinson
El Mizouni
NEW CM

No 10s:
Celina
Aluko
Chaplin
Edwards

Strikers:
Jackson
New Striker
New Striker

With perhaps Dobra, Harper, Humphreys and one or two others under 22 staking a claim.

McKenna was talking about having finally found a role for Edwards before he got injured. I wonder if it was the role that Jackson was filling as a wider striker with pace? If so Edwards could be one of the “new” strikers.

Could well be, if that's the case I'd suggest either no new LWB or moving Penney on and adding an additional No10, or really pushing Dobra to see if he can fill that 4th slot.
