Covid 08:19 - Apr 2 with 5272 views | gtsb1966 | Totally out of control now isn't it. I know so many people who have got it including myself. Was reading that there were 5m cases last week. We can't have another lock down so what happens now.
Covid on 08:23 - Apr 2 with 2576 views | Ely_Blue | What happens now? We live with it. Much fewer people seriously sick with it, more people vaccinated against it so any infections should be less severe, the virus has weakened considerably so with continuing boosters/yearly jabs like the flu jab we should be able to cope

I was one of those shouting from the roof tops to end mask wearing. I think I was shouting way too early to be honest. I've personally found having covid the second time just as bad as the first.

I can understand people not wanting to be locked down again, but why on earth would you be "shouting from the roof tops" to end mask wearing?!

I thought it was unnecessary once the government relaxed everything and the virus would get so weak it wouldn't affect our daily lives. What do I know.

Touch wood I haven’t had it, I’m quite amazed by that given The number of town games I’ve been to and the amount of plane/train/airport travel I’ve been on/in for the last 6 months

First week back in the office after COVID - noticeably fewer people here and apparently not just COVID, people with actual flu and other viruses ripping it up.

I've actually changed jobs because of the price of fuel. I was only working 20 hours a week but the commute made it hardly worth doing now.

We've been wearing masks in work now for two years, but as from Monday that will change, I suppose this new strain is so much more milder than Delta, yes most people will get similar symptoms but overall it's very unlikely alone to put you in hospital.. Going to feel strange on Monday, I'm sure masks help with colds and flu generally, it's put me in that mindset, though during the summer they're pretty unbearable at times.. We still have 100k masks too, which won't be fit for purpose after 12 months, god knows what we'll do with them..

When I had the delta variant I was in bed for four days. This version hasn't done that but the cough is a lot worse.

You probably have, but not caught it on a test. I'm pretty sure I got it again recently and it didn't show up by the time I got tests again.

Culturally we should be accepting it like in East Asia as this winter with people reluctant to heat homes etc. we will likely see all sorts of illnesses hit harder in certain sections of the population.

Covid on 09:17 - Apr 2 with 2245 views | ITFC_Esquire | I’m a doctor down in Hampshire. Admittedly there is a lag between case rises and hospital admissions, but we aren’t currently hit anywhere near as hard as the first 2 waves. Does look as though the morbidity and mortality is much lower as a consequence of mutation/vaccination/natural immunity etc. Flu looks to be rearing it’s ugly head again though!

I’d be surprised but who knows. I’ve been testing every time I have anything like a sign of feeling unwell with cold like symptoms but also before and after every trip that I take. I can’t afford to take risks given that my OH is immuno compromised

Ah ok - yeah my younger brother just moved house to be closer to work (and also where he wanted to live) and saved about 15% of his pay by cutting fuel costs - totally nuts at the moment

We still have mask wearing in Scotland*. Scotland has had the highest rate of infection over the past few weeks in the UK. *Nicola Sturgeon was due to relax the rule on mask wearing on Tuesday. Due to the high rates of infection in Scotland this has been put back to April 18th. Except in places of worship where you no longer have to wear a mask. Call me a cynic but I doubt she would have relaxed the 'place of worship' mask wearing rule in Scotland had she not been photographed not wearing a mask at the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service

According to Gov stats the numbers being admitted to hospital is now as high as it was at the peak in January. Numbers in intensive care are much lower, seems there is an increase in the numbers admitted to hospital for non Covid related reasons but test positive.

Yes, you were too early. It’s taking the reinfections to make people realise it isn’t ‘just like a cold’. Obviously some people get it worse than others, as has always been the case, but plenty are getting hit badly this time round. Hospitalisations are high and plenty of people’s lives are being made miserable by long covid as well. As for ‘learning to live with Covid’, we’re not really doing that either. We’re ignoring it, which isn’t the same thing at all. Learning to live with it should mean adapting so the we can get of with as normal life as possible while minimising opportunities for infection. So re-evaluate how we use indoor spaces, better ventilation, and yes in some cases wearing masks if needed.

Completely agree. The restrictions have been lifted and people have simply gone back to behaving how they did before Covid hit. Like the last 2 years were a blip, it's gone now though as people or the media aren't talking about it as much.

That's not entirely true. The number of people in hospital are as high but they are not in hospital for Covid - seeing that 1 in 13 people had it last week you can understand why the figures are high - especially as hospitals are a place where infections cam spread through wards - like noravirus.
