Expandable hoses, what's the hive's opinion? 20:34 - Apr 3 with 1006 views | NthQldITFC | Do these new-fangled expandable hoses last. I want to replace a 25 year old traditional 'solid' hose which is becoming more of a colander than a hose. I have used an expandable one before, and I like the way it empties itself out for ease of carrying, but I don't want to buy something for convenience if that convenience comes at the cost of a short lifecycle, because that makes me FUME and is very, very bad! What's the deal? - not sure how long they've been around so I guess no-one can tell me it'll last 20 years.

I complained to the company, they sent me another one, that lasted a bit longer, but not much. Did only cost about a tenner though. Bought another one, a retractable coil one, didn't cost much more, that's been fine ever since.

Expandable hoses, what's the hive's opinion? on 21:00 - Apr 3 with 934 views | NthQldITFC | Ah, thanks both, that's rather what I feared, and is enough to make me go traditional again. I don't think I'll go for a retractable coil job as I have to weave up the garden a bit with it sometimes, and I reckon it'd do damage to some of my plants and trees on recoil. Last thing I want is for the hose to pinch off my plums prematurely! Cheers again.

Expandable hoses, what's the hive's opinion? on 21:14 - Apr 3 with 897 views | Meadowlark | Waste of money.. I have (foolishly) bought several, and they have all failed quite quickly, even when handled and used with great care.
Expandable hoses, what's the hive's opinion? on 21:16 - Apr 3 with 888 views | Swansea_Blue | I’ve got an old fashioned one on a reel and it’s bombproof. It’s the best however much the previous owner of the house ever paid. I never knew I needed one, but I’d be lost without it now. The only problem is that it’s yellow.

Agree I bought one when they first came out great for a short time then leaked all over, don't buy one.

That's a good question, but I could at least will it to my successors. Having said that, water might not even be a thing in 20 years the way things are going. I wonder, can they handle home made gin?

Expandable hoses, what's the hive's opinion? on 22:28 - Apr 3 with 788 views | jeera | Unless you have a specific need for one then no, stick to a conventional one. I moved from a significantly larger place to this flat which has a small garden and limited storage space outside so I have one as it's fits my needs. However, I made the mistake of buying those green cheapish things and they didn't hold up for long. The one I have now is still an expandable but of far better quality, in a cool black with decent brass fittings, all of which was reflected in the price, so the obvious 'get what you pay for' and all that. But even for things like wanting to use the pressure washer I have to dig out the old faithful on a reel cos an expandable is of no use for that!
