The holiday thread a day or so back has got me thinking of long lazy sunny days on glorious swathes of sand (or pebbles ).
Xi beach on Kefalonia, red sand and warm shallow sea. A few tavernas selling cold Mythos beer is probably mine. Bliss.
Where are yours.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

We're off to Lassi in the Summer...did you ever check out Petani Beach not far from Xi?

We did.
Also gorgeous.
Got the ferry from Argostoli to Lixouri a couple of times. Short drive across to the beaches.

Have you been to Kefalonia before?
If not, can recommend other beaches and villages to explore.

If I had to choose three.

Laguna, CA - Best in Southern California IMO
Vik, Iceland - Otherworldly
Cannon, OR - Scenic and atmospheric

Lived in a beach town for 18 months about 5 years ago, great early morning runs but it all just becomes samey like anywhere else (and annoying with tourists at the weekend). Probably not worth the cost, all dependent on where you are though.

Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays wasn't the worst place I've ever been.

This is my favourite beach too. I love how the sand is like powder due to being 98% silica, which also gives it the bright white colour.

Fun fact. The local geology has no silica content. This means all the sand was dumped there by the tide millions of years ago. No one is quite sure where it comes from.

Just once, also staying in Lassi. Took one bus trip around some of the island, we may have to hire scooters this time I think.
Do you need transport from Lixouri or are there buses to get out to the beaches?

Hire scooters or a car. Public transport was/is not particularly frequent or reliable. The ferry across is regular and takes bikes/cars.
The beaches along the south coast at Lourdata, Katelios and Skala among others are all accessible within 45 minutes on scooters from Lassi and well worth a visit if time permits.
It maybe advisable to book a car well before you go though. Can recommend Pefanis car hire from previous trips.
Have a great time on my favourite Greek Island.

Lourdata. Lovely chilled out vibe but a steep hill down to the beach
Sami. Working port resort with better access to the north of the island.
Self catering in small villas.

Depends on the situation. Shingle Street for the ambience in winter. Aldeburgh for a swim in the summer with the mates. Brancaster as an all rounder, good for a walk out to the shipwreck.

Just don't get caught out by the tide re Brancaster. Comes in at a hell of a pace so need to check the times.

Croyde Bay for the following reasons
1. the very large beach and gentle in the summer surf
2. The wife seeing that famous rower in a far too tight wetsuit.

The sandy beach and dunes at Walberswick deserve a mention.

And some of the beaches on the west coast of Sutherland are Mediterranean-like, save for the temperature of both the air and water.

When I visited nearly 40 years ago, they were deserted, but they may be a bit more visited these day given the North Coast 500.

Good shout, but you missed Broad Haven South, which is the most beautiful beach I have even seen. And with the equally beautiful Lilly ponds behind, which is a magical walk. Pembrokeshire is Cornwall, but without the hoards of tourists.

In Pembrokeshire recommend Traeth Llyfn off the coastal path between Porthgain and Abereiddy. It's a mile from nearest car park and accessible only by a set of steps down a cliff allegedly built by Italian POW's but you'll have the sand, rock pools, & peregrines flying off the cliffs pretty much to yourself.

Funnily enough, I visited Contoy and Isla Mujeres in Mexico last month while we were there, and they were both fantastic.

While I'm not 100% convinced wilsondavid is a Town fan and not someone from the Mexican Tourist board, I can vouch for their beauty.
