Going to be hard pushed to find someone aged 22/23 with a record like his for the resale value. Striker is a position where money needs to be spent, and the one position where you don't have to necessarily worry about resale, he's in his prime and will be for the next 3 years minimum.

Peter Crouch big, or Mickey Quinn big? A Pablo mark II, and a Darren Bent mark II would do very nicely.

Cheeky mention of transfer records on 15:29 - Apr 14 by Bent_double | Am I odd for thinking that I hope we don't? We're already seen as one of the arrogant big sides in this division, which somehow seems to give the smaller teams an added edge to their game when they play us (see Cambridge at home). I would rather 2 or 3 smaller signings, similar to what Cook did last summer - spreads the risk too - knowing our luck we'd spend £5m on a striker who'd get injured in the first few games and be out for the season. |
Fees are getting silly even at our level, as are the wages. If you think the amount of money we have spent on players/wages to achieve 9th it's absolutely absurd. If we are paying over a mill for anyone at this level we are inside because they arent that good and I do worry if Gamechanger will start to gamble after a terrible first year let's be honest.

Cheeky mention of transfer records on 16:29 - Apr 14 by vilanovablue | I'm more confident now than I have been ages we might actually have a transfer strategy. McKenna knows what he wants and he actually have an infrastructure to support him. I'm not averse to spending cash if it's not scattergun as it was last summer. We'll see. |
As I said earlier, think we'll learn a lot about any potential player trading strategy we may have this summer. For quite some time we've paid out sod all and let players run down their contracts, leave for free or next to nowt. Ashton has shown he drives a hard bargain so will be interesting to see what we do going forward. As for this record fee, I can't see it. Celina maybe. But that'd be a hard sell to an investment group in L1 you'd have thought.

Cheeky mention of transfer records on 16:18 - Apr 14 by itfcsuth | When you are talking about £5M, which is the figure I think we are talking about, that is absolutely absurd money at this level and borderline reckless. Nothing shrewd or smart about spending £5M on a player at League 1 level. |
I think you'd struggle to arrange a transfer for that much in L1 full stop, tbh. Who would fit the criteria of (a) being worth £5m (b) wanting to play in L1 (c) being within our wage bill? There's a reason why there's only ever been two transfers fees in excess of £2m in this division.

They're not just buying for this level though. Bearing that in mind, £5m at League 1 is an investment that will be worth more (perhaps many times more) if we go up. You need to look at the bigger picture.

If you spend a certain £ on player transfer fee abroad would that give the player enough points to come over? Or is it just wages or international appearances that count.

Fees and wages don't count in any way towards the visa points, it's all about how regularly you play and in what competitions
