Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT 07:47 - Jul 4 with 3406 views | BonneNIL | https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town/macauley-bonne-on-itfc-and-his-qpr-fut I know this will not be popular with some on here, but the man sounds passionate and desperate to be involved. He's got the chance to play in the Championship but still wants to be here. I'd give him another shot at it, he's good enough for League One and was one of our better players last season. With Norwood gone, Jackson still not 100%, and Piggott has hardly set the world on fire, why isn't there a case for him to be in the squad?

Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 08:59 - Jul 4 by itfcjoe | Pigott makes things very difficult - we will likely lose Norwood and Bonne, both better and more effective players than JP, because he is on a monster contract that we can't shift. Even when you watch the highlights of Arsenal game back he's getting caught on the ball in the middle of our half etc |
He's so unsuitable for how KM wants to play as well. We need a central striker who can make the ball stick, and with the speed of thought and execution to bring in those around him. I'm not going to lose much sleep if Norwood and Bonne aren't here next season, but in their defence they did bring that street wise experience and threat to the side, as well as some goals. Not as many as we might've hoped, but they can definitely score. If Norwood goes to Bristol Rovers I wouldn't bet against him scoring 20. It's going to be hard for Pigott as he's never had a proper run in the side but I've never really seen any of that in him. He looks a yard off the pace both physically and mentally, sloppy in possession, just a bit of a carthorse, I don't like him at all. I get that he scored goals at Wimbledon, but that's quite a different proposition to what we need here. In hindsight he should've gone to Wycombe and sh1thoused 15 goals last season, but I dare say his bank balance is better off for this move.

Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 09:15 - Jul 4 by nodge_blue | I thought that was a terrific interview. Players with that sort of passion for the club will always give so much more. Id like to see him back here, I don't see why he couldn't recover his first half season form. |
He will give more but there is a danger he starts trying way too hard rather than letting his game flow naturally. Even more so with his form in the second half of the season. I think realistically we only have space for one more forward and I’m not sure I’d want to risk it on a player who scored 1 in 20+ games with most of those under our current manager.

Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 08:56 - Jul 4 by ibbleobble | Sign him, it’s a no brainer. I find it staggering that so many have question marks over him. We know the type of service he thrives off but he gradually got starved of that as the second half of the season wore on. His all round work ethic and work off the ball is excellent even when it’s not going for him. Bonne, Chaplin and Ladapo with Jackson, Piggot and Edwards gives us plenty of options. |
Got starved? He was missing so many sitters by the end I don't think you can blame the service.

Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 09:23 - Jul 4 by SouperJim | I'd rather have him than Pigs, but that's not really the choice is it. I think his fairytale is done. Probably wouldn't work out if he came back again, so why not leave it where it is rather than tarnish it. |
I've not heard anything to suggest it's likely this summer. Not sure he's what KMc wants.

Yes. it's unfortunate for him that his huge dip in form coincided with McKenna joining. Doesn't appear to fit in with the style of play with McKenna wants and we don't appear to be able to trust him to stay onside at crucial points of our play
Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 10:06 - Jul 4 with 591 views | STYG | I'd love to see Bonne back next season. As a fan, watching a new striker, be it Ladapo or another, being successful in McKenna's system. Bonne is the Town player I have liked the most since Murphy. Would have loved it to work out for Bonne, but 1 goal in 30 isn't just a bad run of form or personal issues or confidence. It's the sort of record so bad you can't ever justify going back when our sole aim is to get promoted and will rely on a good goals return from the main man up front. I love that Bonne happened, I'm thrilled he got to live his and our dreams, scoring the winner for Town, scoring in front of the North Stand, captaining the side etc but we are close to being a promotion side and Bonne simply isn't that missing piece, no matter how desperately I wish he could be.

You should have told us earlier, Phil, and we wouldn't have wasted two threads with endless speculation! On the other hand, what would TWTD be without endless speculation!

Mick "genius manager" Mills is that? Now, I love Mick, and think he's a really good pundit notwithstanding the comedic couldn't-make-it-up monotonous voice... but not sure he's got this one right. I may have a whoosh incoming...

Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 08:45 - Jul 4 by Marshalls_Mullet | I don't think anyone expected him to maintain his initial form. |
I wouldn’t expect him to maintain his initial form, but somewhere in the middle would have been nice, his form fell of a cliff. Good bloke, good worker, but ultimately not quite good enough for us.

Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 11:19 - Jul 4 with 421 views | Guthrum | I like the way he comes across as a person. I was impressed with the way he performed early last season, particularly the presence of mind to rob the Sheffield 'keeper of the ball and set up a goal. I feel he was sometimes being marked out of the game by opponents from the middle of the season on. It is, however, hard to overlook the near-complete goal-drought after the start of November. If McKenna thinks he has a way of overcoming whatever caused that issue, then I'd be more than happy to have Bonne return, whether on loan or, if the price is right, permanently.

He was a touch unlucky under McKenna for me, came very close to scoring on a few occasions and just needed one or two to go in. It can get a bit like that when you're struggling for form of course, maybe he used up all his luck in the first half of the season or maybe Cook showed belief in him that built him up, but once McKenna came in it felt like the pressure was back on to prove himself again and he couldn't quite get his head right. Would make sense with what was going on in his private life.

Bonne wants to re-join Ipswich - EADT on 11:32 - Jul 4 with 388 views | The_Flashing_Smile | The story doesn't elaborate on whether they got pregnant, whether it's still ongoing or not. As harsh as it seems, those issues seemed to affect him and if they still are then we can't get him back out of sentimentality, as others have said. I think he needs to prove he's got his mojo back before we get him back here. It would be an absolute fairy story if it happened, but unfortunately this is the real world.
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

I agree, and I think there were particularly high expectations of Bonne, perhaps unfairly. He scored 12 goals for us last season, which is his highest ever return in the football league. He's not really got a demonstrable record of being overly prolific outside of the Conference, I think the issue was he started like a train and then the goals dried up but I thought he was still contributing. He was effective alongside Norwood and that looked like a good partnership, but the team chopped and changed and Bonne only started 2 of our final 12 games, so it's no wonder the 2nd half of the season was less impressive. He's a tidy player I think, nice touch, good age, good in the air, can certainly finish. I think he's firmly a very decent league 1 forward, who you wouldn't rule out scoring a decent chunk of goals in the right side. Whether he suits a KM system I'm not so sure, I think he's probably better suited in a front 2. But off the bench etc and in certain circumstances I think he would strengthen us, if a deal can be done at the right price I would have him back for sure.

There was one bit in those Arsenal highlights and you see him trying to turn and even in that little bit he looks so off it and so cumbersome. I'm sure he's a great lad, but signing him was a effing disaster because like you say we're stuck with him, contract and wages wise.

I think the context is important about the way Cook played as well. We know under McKenna that we outplayed everyone pretty much most weeks. We could have scored 5 against in form Plymouth who offered little going forward. Could have had four against Pompey, again in form, who were similar. Cheltenham and Morecambe just parked the bus. Bonne was on fire in a period where Morecambe and Cheltenham's were attacking us because we were conceding two goals a game. Matches opened up so much more because we were beatable. As soon as we became a team that didn't concede and teams knew they had to be like Cambridge, sit tight and try and nick something, the chances dried up a bit and we created little, Bonne continued his poor run of scoring and, when we then started to find ways into these teams (like the 40 odd chances we created against Cheltenham and Morecambe in back to back games) Bonne missed several sitters because he was completely out of form. We need a striker that's as good at this level as taking their only chance or half chance. We will continue to take some teams apart and create, but when teams do dig in and stop us playing, which will be a lot more often this season because of the team we now are, we can't have a striker that can't put away that chance. Bonne can take chances in an open match when he has a bit of space to work in, but showed he was completely lost in a match where he wasn't afforded any space at all because of how deep the defence sat in. That's why Jackson looked so good. His movement pulled defenders all over the place and allowed those around him to get into areas to hurt teams in a way Bonne and Norwood and Piggott just don't do.
