Just heard that Hunt is backing Rishi.
Jobs for boys….
Rishi is toast anyway IMHO.
It’s gonna be a two out of three with Rishi, Penny and Truss. Anyone v Rishi will win. Rishi will see a members vote akin to a Eurovision topsy turvy.
My worry is that Truss is going to engineer a win here.
If Truss gets in front of the members she'll win - because despite being an ardent remainer she has gone down the nutty route of being the candidate of the ERG and 'common sense group' which is basically the UKIP wing of the parliamentary party
The membership is basically UKIP, whoever is furthest to the right will win

I have noticed that some people on the left on here have been talking about who would be best (ie the worst) candidate for Labour to have a better chance of getting in.
That’s obviously fair enough and everyone is entitled to their opinion. For me though I don’t really think that way, I want the best person to be at the helm of each party.
So - I also can’t get my head around Truss, she is an imbecile.
I’ve been trying to think but have a brain block. Wasn’t it her who said something along the lines of - “Why do we import cheese”?
What she said was, “We import two-thirds of our cheese, that is a disgrace.”

I strongly disagree.
Rishi is the only person Truss could beat on a final two situation.
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.
I get a vote in this, assuming there's no stitch up by MPs.
Would be delighted with Kemi or Penny. Actually been really impressed with Penny. In the unlikely event it came down to those two it would be a tough call, but I think Penny edges it on wider electoral appeal.
Braverman maybe, but Truss is a lightweight.
Anyway, Rishi clearly the MPs favourite but if any of those ladies are his final opponent he will lose. Which is why I fear a stitch up is on the cards.

Christ alive.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Interesting results from a focus group among red-wall Tory voters. Most of them couldn’t care less about the culture war Badenoch is pushing.

Not so surprising I guess. Sounds like the humongously large increases in bills is sharpening a few minds over what the real priorities are. I think a lot of culture war issues get disproportionate attention on Twitter and certain parts of the media. I wonder if it's seen more as entertainment rather than something to get serious about? dunno. But I never seem to meet people who have some of the extreme views you see bandied about online.

The ironic thing is that the culture warriors love to talk about how left-wing Twitter is unrepresentative of the general public (which to be fair is correct) yet by raving about toilet signs and taking the knee as if they’re mainstream issues , they’re in a massive echo chamber themselves.
The problem with 'libertarians' such as Badenoch is once you head down that rightwing nutjob road it leads you into all manner of dangerous beliefs. We saw that with Thatchers young zealots where nothing was off the table - seat belts, crash helmets, drugs even child sex, all seen as restrictions on individual choice.
Badenoch is already way down the road with her denial of the negative effects colonialism had on native Africans, her attacks on the BLM movement, and now her (at best) seriously misguided views on the new Online Censorship bill.
I appreciate the requirement of this leadership race to pander to the bigotry of the party membership. However Badenoch is not of that group. She seems to believe the disturbing stuff she spouts.
