Hands Up on 09:13 - Jul 19 by StochesStotasBlewe | I do remember the summer of ‘76. Spent most of the school summer holiday at Diss swimming pool, which back then was an outdoor baths with a grass bank on one side and a sun deck on the other. A few of us would share a packet of Players No 6 and (badly) try and chat up the girls. I was only 15 at the time. On a more serious note quirkie, we also back then had a proper spring, autumn, and much colder winters which nowadays are becoming much more infrequent. Our climate in our neck of the woods has changed to the extent that I can now grow more tender plants successfully in the garden that 40 odd years ago would have been pretty much impossible. Our flora and fauna are a good indication of what is happening to the climate here and there are several changes, some subtle, that for me at least should be a warning to us all. I’m having today off as I can’t face being outside working this afternoon. Unprecedented for me. A concerned gardener. |
Seems much warmer now than this time yesterday - good call staying in.

It is here too in Stoke Ash. Poor old pooch is lying in front of the fan, watered the plants at 6.30 this morning, forecast is for possibly some showers tonight and tomorrow will only be 29c. Even the resident flock of sparrows are noticeably quiet today.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

He said in 1976, the max temperature recorded "up north" was about 32 (cant quite remember the exact number). Today its supposed to be 42. Thats the difference. 10 degrees! If you aren't concerned then you're missing something!

Stop bringing facts in to this. He remembers it!!! Three months of it fact. Two and a half more than the record books show.

George Monbiot was writing the other week about how, obviously, we've always had propaganda and misinformation from filthy self-interested businesses and their political lackies. What depresses him more than anything is the opposition to any attempt to save ourselves from fkn ill-educated morons, sometimes in decision making roles, who consider themselves on a pathetic little ego-fuelled ideological crusade against environmentalists whilst being too thick to realise that it is their own children's futures they are dooming. The half-witted bedroom-based deniers and attention seekers like... erm? ...are just too pitiful to bother contemplating. The short-termist, greed-driven stupidity you can sort of understand, but the ideological opposition without a financial incentive is surely the definition of insane. [Post edited 19 Jul 2022 10:10]

And there are the true intentions of the energy industry. Spend massive amounts of money on marketing telling people they are going green. Then behind the scenes don't do that and instead lobby and fund this sort of nonsense instead. I hope one day it'll come back to bite them. Should be something approaching the Nuremberg trials.

Assuming you are not in the UK then because 42 degrees has never been recorded anywhere in Britain, since records began 150 years ago or whatever.

I'm amazed you're still around, how many people have called you a tedious troll now? Please enlighten us to when the world was "much hotter previously" in the context of European summers over an extended period of time, when humans were in their current evolutionary state. Pretty much what I expected from you. Nobody is suggesting it's not been hot before. But we've twice today broken the record for hottest day ever, beating the record from erm ... 3 years ago. Educate yourself you pillock. Find the NASA video posted earlier and realise that 1.2 degrees of the 1.5 degrees rise in temperature since 1900 was in the last 25 years or so. In 25 years time it's suggested it'll go up 1.5 more degrees and another 2 in the 25 years after. At least when nobody can grow any crops and the world starts to die you'll be standing here going on about how it was just as hot in 1949.

No doubt Elephant will be along in a moment to tell us about all the random fires that broke out in 1949. Maybe it's all a conspiracy with actors playing firefighters? Who knows with these lunatics.
