Its a silly decision from Starmer really silly, I have sort of understood what hes been trying to do, but this is a bad decision.

Starmer has supported trade unions his whole life, but now hes so scared of coming across as being remotely left wing, so he has abandoned all his values.

Gotta say Stevey

I kind of have some kind of appreciation for nationalising certain industries

Number one would be the trains - everyone should be able to get to work on time at an affordable cost.

Hooever - let’s not kid ourselves here. If things were nationalised they would be hiked up in price. If the big boss needs money he will get it.

I remember back in the day when the railways were privatised, it was instant black and white, it was so much better.

Now then now then - I acknowledge that some people get too much in the way of bonuses but … …. It’s not all cut and dried.

Shocking optics. Who knows whether this was really in response to his strike stance or more punishment for him going rogue on the media interviews. Irrespective, it's the strike angle that's going to be picked up on and can only hurt the Labour Party further, I'd have thought.

It didn't escape my notice that Starmer didn't explicitly put people first and foremost in their recent messaging. The 'grow, grow, grow' line is very sterile and I can't imagine it capturing the attention of the red wall voters lost to emotive Tory slogans. Labour would be a better option than the Tories by default of course, because the Tories are the most dishonest and corrupt bunch we've had. But Labour still have a lot to do to win the votes. They're doing nothing to offer hope or inspire the millions of people who are struggling (and who in theory they should be representing). I don't know who their messaging is aimed at tbh.

I'm with Darth to the point where I don't want them just to win votes.

I want to them to make a positive difference and to stick to their word.

That's too much to ask apparently.

I hate it when people say things like "They're all the same" as I think it's lazy and in many cases simply untrue, but those who rise to the top don't help the bloody argument much do they.

Sorry but it's it's outrageous that a shadow transport minister backs the sheer inconvenience that the long suffering public have to endure. Effectively stopping people getting to work. Totally 100% correct decision to sack this guy. Labour have to rid themselves of these idiots. Disgraceful.

A very well heeled client working in international finance was only yesterday saying how we should nationalise utilities. Today he said he would vote for Rayner as we mocked Starmer for his latest stance. Ffs, read the room you vacuous amoeba!

He was sacked for making up policy and speaking off the cuff - a big no no and makes the decision right in the sense that it shows Labour to be a party of principle and not populism.

But the optics of it, and the way it allows the media to twist it so easily is a big mistake. It gives ammunition to those with an agenda and allows the logic (whether you agree or not) to be buried.

I know first hand how supportive Long-Baily and Burnham are of TU action but they do not speak out in a way that puts themselves or the party in a corner. It's a fine line given what has been done to TU's and the country in general under years of these Tory bastards.

If Starmer wants to sack people for going rogue with regards to the party leadership then he should probably start with himself.

Very strong backlash from some unions here. Not heard any whispers about disaffiliation yet but it’s surely getting closer to that now.

Starmer couldn’t really win though could he?

Having said they would be sacked if they joined a picket line, if he then didn’t, especially given who this person is in a relationship with of course, he would be accused of favouritism.

I personally think people should be free to join a picket line, but once Starmer made his position clear he had no real choice

Let’s not split hairs here - who knows what is going to happen re all sort of bills throughout the world.

Too early to say this and that.

Gotta tell ya - it’s only just begun.

I might be minded to post a separate thing because let me tell you, current inflation is not reflected by energy prices, you’ve got that to come baby.

Yep, poor judgement in many ways but perhaps he is playing percentages knowing that enough people will vote for Labour under him rather than the Tories, as I and many others did under Corbyn.

That’s more to do with a sensible long term energy strategy. 70pc of their power is from nuclear so they aren’t at the mercy of fossil fuel prices. If only we’d had a long term governmental plan(s) and fewer NIMBY’s!

To those closer to the middle in politics, Labour are clearly much more electable than under Corbyn now.

Right now they just need to get in power and sort the rest out in the wash afterwards.

Tarry joining the picket line was the equivalent of telling a teacher to f@ck off after you’ve left school at 16. He was leaving anyway, but it makes him look cool to a certain crowd

Edit: also just seen a QC say it was technically illegal to join a picket line if you aren’t on strike yourself. So Starmer had the legal line to deal with

I’d be striking if I were an RMT member and I’d support re-nationalising the railways, but I think this is an issue of message discipline, not what he’s saying in itself. You can’t publicly go against policy if you’re on the front bench. Every Labour leader from Blair to Corbyn have sacked people for similar.

I think this is a last ditch attempt by Tarry to avoid his de-selection. Can’t say I’d be sad to see him go given the horrendous way in which he won it in the first place.

Quite. Where’s the inspiration, the ideas and the hope? ‘Not as bad as the Tories’ is hardly going to win hearts and minds is it? It should be easy for them given how the Tories are wrecking everything, but you’re quite right that they’re not making a good argument for how they would be different.
