Who would've thought it!!! I have no interest in this World Cup whatsoever. Never did from the moment it was announced.

The whole thing is corrupt and disgraceful. However I suspect that we will all watch the England games at least.

Speak for yourself. I’ve no intention of watching any of it.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

A country / national team with integrity would not be going.

It is sickening. I can’t get rid of the image of that fat odious oily smug bag of gas Blatter’s smile as Qatar’s name was drawn out. Ludicrous does not even cover it.

I gather he and snake oil salesman Platini have been cleared of any wrongdoing, but I suspect anyone sharing a brain cell and beyond knows that decision was about as bent as it gets. Why on earth hold it there? Just one reason and it isn’t taking the game to new places.

As for how they treat their workers, now there’s a shock. I’m a bit surprised they haven’t dragged them to chop square for the Saturday entertainment. Let’s face it if Newcastles benign, beloved owners can get through 81 on a Saturday, I’m sure Qatar can hack through a measly 60 well before lunch.

Will I watch the World Cup? I don’t intend to but if I’m honest, curiosity will probably encourage me to weaken and watch England.

Edit: Just read the Guardian article posted. I won’t be watching it.

I agree. How on earth players and fans can go to a stadium knowing people died building it is beyond me.

From the fans perspective, not many will be able to go. Some of the stadiums are 40k capacity, 10% of which is for fans. So smaller allocation per team than some of our away attendances.

There’ll be plenty of people who don’t care about the dead workers though and’ll be clamouring for tickets, I’m sure.

But Qatar is on the West's side, so we don't care about human rights abuses, just as we support Saudi Arabia bombing the hell out of the Yemen.

Pretty much every sizeable human endeavour is bent. We delude ourselves that is isn't, but there are always backhanders, brown paper bags and compromised principles in the name of consumerism. I dare say there'll be one or two on here who will fly out to Qatar for a game or two.

For FIFA to have taken a decision to hold the tournament in such an unsuitable environment is fkn despicable. In general, when we w@nk ourselves silly about building multiple entirely new stadia for each Olympics or WC when there are perfectly serviceable stadia in suitable places already is fkn despicable.

Our world is dying - we all know this don't we? - and still we do this extremely overblown edifice construction for the egos of silly little men, and we all go along with it. IT IS FKN INSANE.

No one cares that SA target hospitals in Yemen , displace 1000's of their population and cause famine as a result of their actions, not Qatar killing upteen workers to stage a farce of a football tournament.

I’m sure the people that holiday in Dubai will see no issue with this.

It should be boycotted by teams but money wins. See also AJ in Saudi Arabia.

Truss has said she wants to extend the Rwanda policy to other countries. Perhaps Qatar is next on the list.

And people could start by boycotting that nice, cuddly Qatar Airways which features in TV adverts.

On principle I'm assuming as even if we all boycotted the TV coverage no one would know or care would they?

I can refuse to buy anything advertised at the event as a personal mini protest I suppose, and maybe write to my MP just to let him know my displeasure at the FA's backing of the event.

But apart from that I don't know what we can do to make our collective concerns heard.

Not to be dismissive, if there are petitions available, for example, that I don't know of then I am happy to sign etc.

Again, this is the sort of thing that should be coming from the top.

From the day it was announced I've had no interest it was so obvious it was fixed I just hope some other sport is on TV, I certainly don't intend watching any games.

Horrible isn't it?

Knowing what this tournament has meant throughout its history to so many people and then gets tarnished like this.

Yemen only have themselves to blame for the wests apathy towards them. If they had the decency to be white, have a Christian heritage and ideally based in Europe then Saudi Arabia would be heavily boycotted. Lazy on their part to take the easy way out.
