Martin Lewis is almost in tears on BBC Breakfast on 10:05 - Aug 26 by blueasfook | Think of it as a good thing. Liz Truss becoming PM should be the final nail in the Tories coffin ensuring they get voted out at the next election. Anyone with half a brain knows she will be a complete disaster. |
The problem is, it isn’t people with ‘half a brain’ who will elect her. Those individuals were the ones who were deluded and stupid enough to vote Tory at the last election in the pitifully ignorant belief that BJ was their saviour. Truss will be the outcome of pure self interest, greed and a genuine enjoyment in punching down at those less fortunate.

This is how it starts, the right* demonise the poor, then it’s the immigrants and so on and so on The right wing media will soon start to push this agenda at the behest of the goverment. *not suggesting the poster is a “rightie” as I don’t believe that is the case at all.

I doubt it, they should have been wrecked after Thatcher but maybe her viciousness and ruinous ideology wasn't as pronounced as now? Given the Tories have been terrible governors so many times and yet still get in makes me sceptical this is it for them. They control far too much and whore themselves out to anyone who will give them power. All whilst appealing to the prejudices and selfishness of people. In a short cycle FPTP world that is a hard combination to beat. Far too many people worry about losing their crumbs, they don't realise or care about the bigger picture.

Boris was voted for to serve a purpose - Get Brexit Done. Now that's done, i think we will see the red wall get behind Labour again. (helped of course by the demise of the Corbyn regime).

I've never voted Tory in my life never would all parties have faults no doubt about it. But they are all about themselves Greed money and I'm OK Jack Never work out how working people vote for them there would be no NHS no working conditions for employee's. At times people need to look at themselves. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Compare that with a mate of mine who has considerable health issues, but keeps having his money cut off as he struggles to comply with all the jobhunting requirements (computer illiterate, mobility and concentration issues, on strong medication - but somehow assessed as fit for work). Sure, he has a flat paid for by the state, but they don't make his life easy, by any means.

That's the reality of being out of work not your other example. I suspect Guthers is correct and there could possibly be other sources of income with the family who have fake tans. It could be they're getting a nice tan from all of the lights in their loft?

You seem to know an awful lot about this family, their eating and spending habits, how much their things cost etc., Have they explicitly told you all of this, do you spend every waking hour watching them, or are you just making this all up?

Quite so. And why highlight that some of those in receipt of benefits get more money than some working people earn, unless as an argument to push up the wages/income of those in work? The race to the bottom truly is an ugly one.

I don't think it has much to do with ideology these days. Basically, politics (and the political media) is chock full of people who love the game of politics way too much and/or are in it for themselves and the interests of donors, employers, friends and family. That's why the current UK political class is generally ignorant and illiterate when it comes to the real stuff like policy, the economy and society as a whole. They just don't have the imagination or the ideas to get off the broken neoliberal hamster wheel, even if they had the personal or party political incentives to do so. On a side note, it seems middle England is finally catching up to the idea that Westminster really doesn't work to represent them. About two decades too late.
