You can tell he's trying not to swear or lose it.

The fact we've got Zahawi releasing a generic press release in response and he's the guy who got us to heat his stables isn't a good sign is it?

If you think the Tory are responsible for this world wide crisis , you are seriously deluded my friend !

They (and the Lib Dems) are responsible for killing the onshore wind, solar and insulation industries/programmes in the early 2010s, which have had a massively negative impact on our continued reliance on gas (which is what is driving the price rises) and people's energy use/costs.

I hate this POV. I know people who vote Tory for this reason and it’s utter sh*te.

You’re affectively saying that you’ll continue to vote for the plebs who ARE screwing over the country rather than for Labour just in case they MIGHT do the same. It’s ridiculous.

I suppose it's marginally more socially acceptable than simply saying 'I just hate the poors and foreigners'.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Whilst Labour were at the wheel for the GFC, and most definitely could have done some things better including tighter regulation of the City, it’s staggering that people still believe that the Conservatives are “the party of the economy”.

On the Tories’ watch, we’ve seen the national debt absolutely balloon, stagnant growth due to lack of state investment in infrastructure, highest tax burden since the 1940’s, and not to mention had our sovereign credit rating downgraded. Economically illiterate.

All because the government poured money into those that needed help during lockdown , and the more they gave the more people wanted , all leading to our national debt going way beyond controllability, before covid this country was on an upward trend on all if not most fronts ……. They became dammed if they did and dammed if they didn’t….. felt for Boris although he told a few little porky’s he done a blo@dy good job …. IMHO

He's not though, has he?

If the sole criterion for this sort of assessment is whether the individual concerned has 'done their best', then I'll be off down to Papworth on Tuesday to try my hand at open heart surgery. I can't guarantee I'm any good at it, but I'll do my best.

Sovereign credit rating has nothing to do with the furlough scheme. The Tories racked up a huge debt to GDP ratio even before the pandemic. It’s how your ability to pay down your debt is viewed. This downgrade occurred due to a sluggish growth outlook (worth noting compatible peers were not downgraded at the time). Other countries, notably the US implemented huge government stimulus schemes investing in infrastructure to get their economies moving. We did not.

You don’t know what you are talking about.

I've just come back from France and while I can't comment on the gas/elec/oil prices, diesel/petrol was a lot cheaper. We were paying about €1.75/litre (£1.43) in local garages when it was £1.96/litre here. Even the most expensive service station we saw was €2.09, which is £1.74.

So roughly 50p/litre cheaper if you shopped around. That's over £30 per full tank. Every little bit helps, as they say.

For food and drink it seemed more expensive than last time we went, but was still better value than here. Greengages were extortionate though - it must be a bad season for them!

Define ‘the narrative’
So far, all you’ve done is rehash the tediously lazy & uneducated platitudes that plague this country.

That's the typical response of some of the left leaning on here instead of debating like adults you just throw insults!

Not much use in a polling station as there is not a 'none of the above option'.

This is a curious statement

“ before covid this country was on an upward trend on all if not most fronts “

At that stage the U.K. was still in transition from leaving the EU. If the U.K. was on an upward trend, it would have been a trend established whilst in the EU.

Boris took us out of that trend.

And the plan that Boris announced when he became PM, the one he had for social care. That was before Covid. How is that going, surely things are much better in the NHS because he solved that?

And biofuels. Hugely important for haulage, but our promising companies moved to the States as we spent years in policy limbo land in the first half of the 2010s.

And then they killed the domestic solar market about 3 years ago by removing the subsidies (despite corporate fossil fuel actors getting subsidised to feck).

The thought of you trickling down to the polling station to soil your ballot paper is just too tragic to contemplate.

Compare that with a mate of mine who has considerable health issues, but keeps having his money cut off as he struggles to comply with all the jobhunting requirements (computer illiterate, mobility and concentration issues, on strong medication - but somehow assessed as fit for work). Sure, he has a flat paid for by the state, but they don't make his life easy, by any means.

The way many people in that situation are hounded is enough to make them ill.

Even if they weren't quite poorly enough to begin with, the system will see to it that they become that way.

How about nationalising the rail water and power companies to begin with so the country can be self sufficient. We know the tories won't do it but why won't starmer?

“How about nationalising the rail water and power companies to begin with so the country can be self sufficient.”

We don’t have enough oil and gas to be self-sufficient, we’d still need to buy it from the oil majors. Also the power network is connected to continental Europe and power is shared (both ways) at times of high load.

We do have enough if we dig it up. After all Russia doesn't produce anything, it just extracts things from the ground and sells them abroad.
