Goes back to the Play Off final in 2000 - their fans were classy before, during and after the game. Remember being on the coach about to leave Wembley, and a bunch walked past towards their own vehicle and applauded us. We clapped them back. Would love them to be promoted with us this season.

Their fans to a man clapped in the 10th minute which was what you’d expect but still nice to see. Also worth noting at half time when our under 9s were going round the pitch getting applause, they got to the corner where the Barnsley fans were and most of their away end stood up and clapped our youngsters. A nice touch.

I was having a read in the week on their forum and a few of them mentioned our fans clapping their coach that day after the game. The fondness between both clubs seems mutual. ‘Have always liked Ipswich as a club since that day’.

Forgot to mention that - I noticed the Barnsley fans rose and applauded in the tenth minute and our youngsters at half time too.

My mum's from Barnsley and all her side of the family come from there. She went to the same school as Mick McCarthy ( not at the same time) . When we play them away we all go up and make a weekend of it. Last time we went up there I met Dickie Bird who played in the same Barnsley CC team as Micheal Parkinson, Boycott and my grandad in the early 60s. There's a statue of Dickie in Barnsley but they had to put it on a plinth because people kept putting dodgy stuff on his finger https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-24772136

Likewise, going back home to Leeds afterwards, shared a carriage. We all remained in colours, very friendly, they were actually brilliant - carried on singing & joking as though they'd won. As the train went under a couple of bridges going into Yorkshire, some Blades fans had draped banners over the approach side saying "Blades 4 - 2 Tykes, cheeky bastards. We joined the Barnsley fans in their jeers!

Wandered into a pub full of Barnsley fans that day. Three hours later and very well oiled, we all walked down Wembley way together. Brilliant day out. Had a bit of a soft spot for them since then.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

I liked Barnsley very much until today when their alleged antics at the train station and the way they play under Michael Duff, who seems like a national league manager at best, soured them in my eyes.

That's twice this year McKenna's failed to beat a Michael Duff team at Portman Road.

Like all they have their good and their not so great. The day of the play-off final I was in my car and in front of me was a large limo been hired out for the day by a handful of Town fans. Seemed a good group of lads; they pulled over at the side of the road not so far from the ground to get out of the car and applaud fellow fans from both sides on their way to the game. Cars hooting horns, coaches full of fans in colours were all waving back. Then one coach load of Barnsley fans went past, windows open given them dog's abuse. Just the one though. The rest were high-spirited and enjoying the day out like the rest of us. Not surprising they have some w@nkers in their midst too. What was surprising is how they managed to group them all together onto one singular coach! [Post edited 28 Aug 2022 0:24]
