No. Postponing domestic games is one thing but European games is totally different.

One of the benefits of Brexit is that the EU and its institutions don't have to give a flying fig for the UK anymore.

Apparently the day of the funeral will be a day of national mourning, and there will be no Bank Holiday or suchlike. The funeral is scheduled to happen on 'Day 10' so, depending on whether today counts as Day 1 or not, it'll either be next Saturday or Sunday.

So we've got to mourn, but only if we're not playing the Europeans?

Day 10-12 I think. Probably be the Monday.

I really can't see sports being cancelled at the weekend. It will surely be anything that falls on the day of the funeral. I just don't get why so much would stop. How to cripple a country more. There is one thing for sure the Queen wouldn't have wanted, screwing the country economically even more. Some things will be cancelled, some things will be at discretion and there will be a full day of nothing happening the day of the funeral but i expect most events to go ahead this weekend.

It's not really unprecedented. All of the kings and queens of England have died except for the present king.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it ends up being on the Sunday, if only to cause as little economic disruption as possible.

You could give Balmoral a ring and see if you can speak to Charlie boy! Hell of a way that, so hopefully the league will give enough notice if matches are off.

Unprecedented as in the length of time between the last and this, and how things have changed since then.

The plan for this states that all elite sport, including Premier League and EFL games are postponed. But apparently this didn’t happen when King George VI died. I expect an email from the club dropping into the inbox tomorrow.

Why would cancelling football games cripple the economy? It's just postponing the game as ofter happens ie with international call-ups

Because it's not just football matches we're talking about. All kinds of entertainment venues are likely to close their doors. Stock markets may be shut for up to 10 days.

I'm not just talking about football. I'm talking all sorts of sports, leisure and entertainment and social activities. of course it will have an impact...especially on small businesses

No. It’s easy to postpone domestic matches as English teams will be following the same protocol as set out by the FA etc. But European matches will be different as why Will other nations want fixtures to be postponed due to this. I’m not in favour of postponing football or forcing other things and places to shut but it’ll probably happen.
