Truss speech madness, politics of division and falsehoods on 20:15 - Oct 6 by Swansea_Blue
No surprise really, as US donors are significant backers of the ‘Think Tanks’ of whom Truss and Kwarteng are effectively graduates, and whose representatives now hold key govt advisory positions. They ARE the government now, not the Tory Party.
“The TaxPayers’ Alliance, the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Policy Exchange, the Adam Smith Institute and the Legatum Institute have raised $9m from American donors since 2012. Of this, at least $6m has been channelled to the UK, according to tax returns filed with US authorities — representing 11% of the think tanks’ total UK receipts, with the figure reaching 23% for the Adam Smith Institute.” https://bylinetimes.com/2022/06/07/black-ties-and-dark-money-the-conservative-ca
I don’t know whether there’s a publicly known direct link to Palin, but there’s a substantial Anglo-American axis of neoliberalism that’s funding, lobbying for and promoting the parallel approaches on each side of The Pond.
Was an interesting interview with IEA head on a pod the other day, he was basically bemoaning Truss and Kwarteng's delivery of their policies and thinks it will set them back as they think doing it this way and this quickly will make their views look bad.
Also said they have an easy job, they come up with ideas, and that it's up to politicians to find where their ideas and real life balance of them working cross on a Venn diagram and admits that is often infinitesimally small area.
Truss and Kwarteng just seem to have read the white papers and not done the background work to see if they are actually possible

"admits that is often infinitesimally small area. " - or even if that area exists at all!
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....

Yep, I'm sure many of the policies won't ever work at all - think tanks have always been important but we clearly have leadership who think that they are policy makers rather than ideas people

Did he mention the time he told an undercover journo that he could sell access to tory ministers?

I suspect it is more the case they have sold their souls to the devil, in return for high office.
The stuff they are trying to push through is basically the reasoning for brexit. the thick were told it was about chucking out Jonny Forrener, and stopping the EU banning Xmas, hedgehog flavoured cucumbers and white kids eating conkers (and other sundry nonsense).
The true intent was to supposedly lower the costs to business by removing costly regulation and anything else that fell as a charge upon them - thus able to compete on the world stage. Fine in theory, if you don't think about the consequences.
The markets did Friday fortnight ago.
Offering yourself up as a cut price sweatshop is never a good idea. Other counties spending to train a high skilled work force will leave the UK behind. Allowing the infrastructure, and upkeep of the country to fall into disrepair (as now) will not attract investment.
So far we have only seen how the EU reacts to brexit. We will now see how the UK reacts (via legislation). The fear is how much damage can these brexit, Tomorrow belongs to me, nutters cause.
We've had a taste - it is set to get more unpleasant.

Her objective, presumably, was to paper over the cracks in the Conservative party by concentrating on the opposition. Think she managed that quite well but doubt if her delivery made any impact on anyone apart from those diehard party members in attendance.
Conservatives really do regard themselves as the safe option convinced that things would be far worse if others formed a government.
The time is approaching when we, the electorate, will have an opportunity to make changes.
It probably didn't help that every cut to the audience was exclusively old white men dressed in suits giving half-hearted nods of approval.
Her extreme policies don't even have universal support within her extremist party and the soundbites are as lame as May's "strong and stable".
She seems to be enjoying how much she’s f**king over the common person, the normal bloke who hasn’t got millions in his pocket. I hate her for it.
And I hate that she’s making Boris supporters look vindicated in their long-term tribe ideology that nobody would do a better job. And despite him being a disgrace, a liar, a homophobe, a racist and a criminal.. he’s still going to be looked upon by so many as ‘it’s a shame he was stabbed in the back by his own party.. all to get Liz Truss in who was the worst PM ever’. You can already see history being written that him staying would’ve been a good thing.
I work with a couple of single mums and the stuff in the last two weeks with the energy bills has them crying our shop genuinely scared that they’re going to end up freezing cold or homeless. And that is because of the actions in recent weeks of Liz Truss and Kearteng and their supporters. It’s terrifying. She’s a disgrace even to her party. Let alone to the people of this country, the majority of which she is gleefully tearing to shreds with a smug grin and a lack or conscious and care. Hate is a strong word but I absolutely hate her with a passion. How can anyone stand there and enjoy ruining so many peoples lives in the space of a couple of weeks.
