Imagine how good we could be … 09:29 - Oct 22 with 4757 viewsringwoodblue

If we had one or two decent strikers. We’d be unstoppable.

15 games in and I’m sorry Ladapo and JJ are not really doing it for me. Yes they both show some occasional flashes of quality but not consistently enough. Jackson is playing his part but as last night showed, he can’t find the net often enough. We haven’t seen Ahadme due to injury so he might be the missing link but I doubt it.

As someone suggested in the chat last night, Vydra is available (he’s only 30) and I’m sure we could tempt another good striker in the Jan window.

The club will definitely get one in, its nailed on. The one we bought recently might be the answer when back from injury. Most likely be a Championship one who will have no issues, when we go up.

Personally, i think the more teams work out how we play the more we are going to need a striker that we can trust to put away even a half chance.

at present we dont have that. question is can we get through this season and get promoted with the guys we have..... i think maybe yes, but it would be a whole lot less stressful if we had this striker i mention above.

(and no i dont have any names to suggest, just thinking out loud)

I'll happily wash my mouth out but we need a Grant Holt type.

Imo that's the complete opposite to what we need as it wouldn't open up spaces for our 10s.

We somehow need a more clinical and agile version of ladapo.

Mr ITFCJOE made a good point about connor wickham only being contracted to forest green until jan.... he's scoring a few there too.... might be the perfect return.

Only scored 1 goal in the first 45 minutes in the last 5 games tho, so not surprising people are curious to want another striker.

Yet we are 2nd and until today were joint highest scorers

The wrong kind of striker could also remove goals from other areas of the team, so not as simple as just getting in a more selfish, traditional No.9

I think we’ll bring in another striker in January for a final promotion push, but can’t see it being a big money signing

He would add an option if he can stay fit. Only 30 in March too.

Luckily the games last 90 minutes then and that we scored 8 goals in the final 45 minutes of our last 5 league games.

If you want to argue 9 goals wasn't enough in our last 5 league games, then go ahead. Cherry picking first halves though just seems bizarre.

The five games in which we’ve won four games and scored 9 goals?
Not exactly holding us back is it.

As has been said, many times, our system means our main threat comes from the 10’s and wider players. An out and out 9 May get what 6? 7? more goals over the season than Ladapo, but if that means that we see less threat from Chaplin, Harness, Burns, Edwards etc. then we are so much easier to deal with for an opposition defence.

That's very silly cherrypicking Frimmers. We all know part of our plan is to wear teams down and then bring on fresh and quick attacking players to finish them off. Games are very rarely won in the first half by anyone.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Well we nearly had Will Keane the week before the window shut.

Not sure "we nearly had" Keane. Phil said we were strongly interested but can't recall anything that said a deal was close. Maybe I am wrong though?

it's not cherrypicking to say why I think people might want another striker.

You are correct that games aren't won by half time......... But you can certainly make it potentially easier to do so if you can get a goal or 2 in the first half.

Of course you can but as I said, our system is to wear teams down and then break them. That won't happen in less than a half, and if we do get any goals before half time they're a bonus.

Do you have any evidence of people wanting a striker because we don't score enough first half goals?

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

We possibly got used a bit for a better Wigan contract to be fair but it was very much a strong possibility at one stage. It wasn't speculative/unrealistic on our part.

Evidence? weird

Of course no, hence why I said 'think'

however, i'd ask you if we had scored 1/2/3 goals in each of the first halfs of the last 5 goals as well as those scored in the 2nd half, do you think people would still be wanting a striker?

That it is far from fanciful to think we could sign a player that we think shouldn't be playing at this level. We've done it numerous times over the last 18 months. Just because you have low standards it doesn't mean the club do.

I think there is a large difference between signing Will Keane and signing Vydra who was probably on 30k or something previously.

Guess we will see come January.

Evidence? Well yes, people usually base their assumptions on something. Otherwise it's just whatever mad ramblings pop into your head.

Your second part is just silly. Firstly it depends if a striker was scoring those goals. Secondly it doesn't matter when they're scored, what has the first half got to do with it? Thirdly you seem to be ignoring my point about how we play, wearing teams down in order to break them. That means goals will more likely come later in games.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Not a bad shout that, think he'd also get a huge lift coming back here, could defo see him come off the bench for say 25 minutes and play that big centre forward role..

well you have your something, 1 goal in the first half of the last 5 games. You don't have to agree with it, but you've had what you asked for so not sure why you're desperate for more.

KM has said he's not been happy with first half performances, maybe - MAYBE another striker might help in that aspect, we don't know. but it MIGHT.

No that's evidence of what actually happened. I'm asking for evidence that that's the reason people are wanting another striker. You said you think people want another striker because we don't get enough first half goals. What are you basing that on? Anything?! Surely at least one person must've said that to you, or you've seen it posted on here?

And for about the 3rd or 4th time you've ignored the point that our tactics are to wear teams down, bring on fresh players, then kill them off. Are you agreeing with this? Because in this system early goals aren't part of the plan, they're a bonus.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
